California fears “Big One” after quake strikes near Anaheim
Locals took to social media to report feeling a “sharp jolt” from the quake, with many of them in the La Habra area of Orange County. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake, which had a depth of 4.8 miles, hit at 8:21 am local time (4:21pm UK time). Twitter user Michael Kim wrote: “Another earthquake just hit Southern California. It was a sharp jolt.” The news comes amid heightened fears of California being rocked by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake or greater, known as the ‘Big One’. California is located on the Ring of Fire, a huge area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions frequently occur.
