Pro Life: "Catholic" university blasts ‘Unborn Lives Matter’ posters as ‘bigotry,’ bans them on campus

The Latest news from the pro life movement

College Republicans at DePaul University were prohibited by the university president from displaying posters on campus advertising their group with the pro-life message, “Unborn Lives Matter.”

Vincentian Father Dennis Holtschneider indicated to the university community on Friday in a letter that the “Unborn Lives Matter” message constituted “bigotry” occurring “under the cover of free speech,” The Daily Wire reports.
The College Republicans followed protocol in submitting the design for approval to promote the group, its pro-life views, and its meeting times before hanging the posters on campus.

However, the request made its way to Father Holtschneider, who responded that the administration would protect the university community from the pro-life message’s bigotry, the report said, and that the pro-life poster “provokes” members of the controversial Black Lives Matter political movement, the message of which is allowed on campus.
"By our nature, we are committed to developing arguments and exploring important issues that can be steeped in controversy and, oftentimes, emotion," Father Holtschneider’s letter said. "Yet there will be times when some forms of speech challenge our grounding in Catholic and Vincentian values. When that happens, you will see us refuse to allow members of our community to be subjected to bigotry that occurs under the cover of free speech."
Father Holtschneider, president of the nation’s largest Catholic university since 2004, went on to mention the recent banning of a speaker and asking students to redesign another banner that reportedly “provokes the Black Lives Matter” movement in his rationale, and linked to the University’s “Guiding Principles on Speech and Expression” document before asking students to consider a statement that apparently assumes the Unborn Lives Matter message is hurtful and inconsistent with Catholic values.
"We accept that there is a distinction between being provocative and being hurtful,” he said. “Speech whose primary purpose is to wound is inconsistent with our Vincentian and Catholic values."
LifeSiteNews asked the university for a copy of the letter and clarification on how the pro-life message was hurtful and inconsistent with Catholic values, and how, given both messages purport to convey that lives matter, one is acceptable on campus while another is not. The administration did not respond to several requests.
John Minster, vice president of the college Republicans, told The Daily Wire the letter from Father Holtschneider amounted to “shaming” the student group
"Once again, DePaul University has shown its true colors," Minster said, pointing out that the civil liberties non-profit Foundation for Individual Rights in Education had said DePaul University might be the worst school for free speech in the nation.
Minster continued, "Rather than standing up for the pro-life and free speech ethics this ‘Catholic’ university claims to uphold, administration has bent the knee to radical leftists, banning more speech despite the pro-life message.”
Minster provided a photo to The Daily Wire showing a Black Lives Matter poster on the window of DePaul’s Center for Identity, Inclusion, and Social Change office.

"Some people will say that DePaul’s stance unfairly silences speech to appease a crowd,” Father Holtschneider also said in Friday’s letter. “Nothing can be further from the truth."
The banning of the students’ pro-life poster is not the first message conflicting with Catholic principles generated from DePaul University. This year’s scheduled commencement honoree was alumnus Martin Castro, chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR), who has used his position to advocate for same-sex “marriage” and gender ideology.
Last year, the university proposed a policy allowing students to choose preferred gender pronouns and change their names up to three times for use on class rosters and other college records, despite the fact that “gender theory” contravenes Church teaching on human sexuality.
DePaul was on a list of colleges found last year by the Cardinal Newman Society (CNS) to have an internship and/or a job referral link to Planned Parenthood, and CNS also found last year that DePaul had encouraged students via social media posts to advocate same-sex “marriage” and take part in LGBT pride parades and marches.

This Country Will Soon Let Women Pregnant With Twins Abort Their “Extra” Babies, Even if Healthy

Norway may become the next “abortion tourism” spot for women who are carrying twins.
This week, the Norwegian Ministry of Health ruled that foreign women pregnant with twins or greater multiples can come to the country to selectively abort unborn babies — even if the baby is perfectly healthy, according to The Local, a Norwegian news outlet.
Officials expect the ruling will prompt more women from Sweden and Denmark, where such abortions are restricted, to travel to Norway for abortions, according to the report. Abortions are legal through 12 weeks of pregnancy in Norway.
“All women, regardless of whether they are Norwegian or foreign women residing in Norway have the same right to abortion and fetal reduction,” health official Torunn Janbu told the news outlet.
Here’s more from the report:
According to NRK, several women from other Nordic countries had already contacted Norwegian hospitals about having the procedure.
Lawyers at Norway’s Department of Justice ruled in February that selective reduction procedures should be treated no differently under Norwegian law than any other abortion, and should therefore be legal up until the end of the 12th week of pregnancy. …

The decision went against the advice of many doctors, who fear that the procedure carries risks for the health of both the mother and the remaining fetus.
“We have not found any medical benefit from this,” Dr Birgitte Heiberg Kahrs, a specialist in fetal medicine at St Olav’s Hospital in Oslo. “On the contrary, it exposes the second child in the womb to danger as the abortion risk increases.”
The decision may seem radical, but U.S. and Canadian laws are even more liberal. While Norway allows abortions up to 12 weeks for any reason, many American states allow women to abort their unborn babies up to 20 weeks of pregnancy or even later. Because of Roe v. Wade, a woman can abort an unborn baby for any reason or no reason at all up until viability in the U.S.
The reason for the abortion does not matter under U.S. and Canadian law. If a woman is carrying a girl in her womb and she wants a boy, she can have an abortion. If the unborn child has a cleft lip or Down syndrome, the mother can abort. If the mother simply does not want to parent twins, she can choose to abort one of her unborn children.
Such cases do occur. In 2012, sidewalk counselor Kelly Clinger shared a heartbreaking story with LifeNews about a Florida woman who aborted her twins at 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Clinger wrote:
… my friend John posted a picture of a girl who arrived at [Orlando Women’s Center] to abort her twin baby girls. She already had daughters and didn’t want anymore. She was about 20 weeks along, but because she was pregnant with twins, she had a BIG belly. Within a few hours, the picture went viral. I began to get phone calls & emails from friends who had no idea this was going on. Many offered financial help and MANY offered to adopt her babies. Thousands of people all of over the world were praying that this girl would change her mind…and thousands were saying the picture was a hoax or that what she was doing was illegal. …
The girl … ended up aborting the twin girls in her womb even though we had every kind of help she would ever need ready for her. She admitted that she didn’t want girls and that she had no compassion for the babies she was carrying. Through a 2 day process, she actually had to go into labor and deliver her sweet babies into a toilet. Abortions like these happen ALL over the country EVERYDAY.
A few states and Canada also allow late-term abortions when unborn babies are viable outside the womb. According to the most recent Centers for Disease Control report, more than 9,000 babies were killed in abortions occurring at or after 21 weeks in 2012 in the United States. Currently, 22 weeks is the earliest time a baby can survive outside the womb.

Woman Says Aborting Her Disabled Baby Girl “Was My Last Act of Love as Her Mother”

Abby Flanagan and her husband wanted to start a family right away when they got married. And they were so happy when, five months into their marriage, a pregnancy test showed positive.
The Massachusetts couple’s joy turned to pain during their 17-week ultrasound when their doctors said their unborn baby girl was “incompatible with life.” A week later, Flanagan aborted their unborn child with the full knowledge that she was ending her daughter’s life.
Flanagan shared her story with WBUR, the NPR affiliate in Boston, this week and argued that abortion regulations hurt women like her who choose to have abortions. She blasted Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, the vice presidential running mate of Donald Trump, for supporting pro-life laws in his state. One regulation requires that women be offered the chance to hear their unborn baby’s heartbeat. Another prohibits abortions on unborn babies who are diagnosed with disabilities like Down syndrome.
Flanagan argued that those types of laws do not help women; they only cause more pain.
She wrote:
Before my abortion, I’d had 11 ultrasounds. During the final scan, there was no medical need for me to listen to my baby’s heartbeat. The only purpose of putting me through that would have been to reinforce the fact that the baby was alive and to intimidate me into choosing not to terminate the pregnancy. I was painfully aware that my baby was alive and that my choice to have an abortion would end her life. I didn’t need a 12th ultrasound to tell me that, and a 12th ultrasound wouldn’t have changed my mind.
Flanagan said she started bleeding when she was 12 weeks pregnant with her daughter. Tests and scans revealed that her unborn child had significant health problems. Doctors said her baby girl’s kidneys and lungs were not developing, and she would never be able to breathe.
At her 17-week ultrasound appointment, Flanagan said she received news that she both expected and dreaded: Her child was “incompatible with life.”
She wrote: “And it was over. Just like that. No growing belly. No first kicks for my husband to feel. No baby shower. No rushed drive to the hospital when labor started. No first night at home with a newborn. All that was left was the when and where of a surgical abortion.”
One week later, Flanagan had her unborn daughter aborted at a hospital in Boston. She justified the decision as a compassionate one that prevented her daughter from suffering.
“Having an abortion and ending her life to save her from suffering and slowly dying inside of me was my last act of love as her mother,” Flanagan wrote.

No parent wants to see their child suffer, and abortion activists appeal to that strong desire in parents when they argue that abortion should be legal through all nine months. They have convinced Flanagan and so many other hurting, devastated parents that the most compassionate thing they can do is to have someone kill their child before birth.
Abortions do not prevent unborn babies from suffering, though. They are brutal, often painful procedures for unborn babies. Fatal fetal abnormalities, disabilities and other problems often are not diagnosed until the 20th week of pregnancy, and strong scientific evidence indicates that unborn babies at this stage can feel excruciating pain. Other research indicates unborn babies may be capable of feeling pain as early as eight weeks.
Whether inside or outside of the womb, children with health problems or fatal disorders deserve the best care and treatment that society can provide — not death. They should not have to suffer, but death is not the only way or best way to prevent them from pain.
More programs are offering families support when an unborn baby or an infant has a fatal diagnosis. Perinatal hospice programs offer physical and emotional support to these babies and their families, including counseling, help with funeral arrangements, photographers to take family photos with the baby at the hospital, mementos to remember the baby by, and more. These services help to minimize suffering and encourage families to treasure the short time they have with their child.

Abortions Kill One Million Babies Ever Year, Essentially Wiping Out an Entire City of People

I recently attended a talk where the female attendees were shocked to learn that the total number of abortions in the U.S. is more than 58 million. One million occur each year–more than 32,000 in Pennsylvania alone. That is the equivalent of a city, wiped out in one year by abortion.
The figures are staggering and are still news to Baby Boomers, Gen X-ers and Millennials. Even some individuals who are pro-life do not realize the mind-boggling toll abortion has taken on our nation.
It was the single U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade which has claimed more lives than all the wars America has ever fought.
When the High Court issued its ruling in 1973, who could have predicted the massive death toll from abortion–more than 40 years later?

At the end of the workshop I attended, a young woman went up to the speaker, with tears in her eyes, saying how much her mother is hurting from her abortion so many years ago. The woman wanted so desperately to help her mother. Perhaps, too, the woman was grieving for the brother or sister she never got a chance to meet.
Let’s use our collective voices to speak out on behalf of the victims of Roe–and to work toward ending the national nightmare that legalized abortion has created.

Mentally Ill Patients Ordered Hospitalized in California Can Now be Killed in Assisted Suicides

California has promulgated a regulation to assure that the mentally ill who have been ordered hospitalized in California have access to assisted suicide if they are dying and deemed able to make medical decisions. From 9 California Code of Regulations § 4601 (my emphases):
(a) A terminally ill patient, as defined by the End of Life Option Act, may petition the superior court for access to participate in activities under the End of Life Option Act by requesting release from the custody of the Department of State Hospitals from the court. If the court orders release from the custody of the Department of State Hospitals, the Department of State Hospitals shall release the patient to the ordered entity or person.
People can be involuntarily hospitalized for psychiatric reasons in CA if they are found by a court, beyond a reasonable doubt, to be a danger to themselves or others.
Thus, if a suicidal patient requests to be released to commit suicide but isn’t terminally ill, he will be refused if he is still considered a mortal danger to himself. But if the same patient has terminal cancer, he must be released in order to commit suicide.
That’s not only nuts, but the state is abandoning the terminally ill with mental illnesses to their darkest impulses.
And what if a court decides the patient is, say, too dangerous to be let out? The state must facilitate the suicide by either transporting the mentally ill patient to a death locale or see the deed done at the state facility:
If a court orders that the patient meets the qualifications under the End of Life Option Act, and that the Department of State Hospitals shall facilitate the patient’s access to participate in activities under the End of Life Option Act, the Department of State Hospitals will facilitate the patient’s access to an off-site facility that allows the patient the ability to participate in activities under the End of Life Option Act….
Keep up with the latest pro-life news and information on Twitter.
1) If the court orders that the patient meets the qualifications under the End of Life Option Act, and the Department of State Hospitals is unable to find an off-site facility for the patient to participate in activities under the End of Life Option Act, the Department of State Hospitals will facilitate the patient’s ability to participate in activities under the End of Life Option Act on-site.
Think about this. There will be patients forcibly hospitalized in these institutions because they are suicidal, who will know that other patients are being assisted in suicide. The mind just boggles!
But it’s not unexpected. In Oregon, Michael Freeland was lethally prescribed (two years before dying naturally). Before getting around to killing himself, he became psychotic and was forcibly hospitalized. His psychiatrist made sure his guns were taken but also that the poison prescription “remained safely at home,” even though he would “experience periods of delirium,” the shrink wrote in Freeland’s medical records.
Abuses of assisted suicide in Oregon, Wesley? What abuses?
To recap: My state, which may soon do away with the death penalty, specifically will require government participation and facilitation of the suicides of mentally ill people if they have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
This so-called “death with dignity” movement is driving us out of our collective minds.

Nashville Mayor Signs Proclamation Honoring Planned Parenthood and Its 7 Million Abortions

Anyone who drove by the Nashville city courthouse on Monday night probably noticed the pink lights that lit up the building to honor Planned Parenthood.
The abortion chain, which celebrated its 100th anniversary on Sunday, managed to convince several cities to flood their courthouses with pink lights — Planned Parenthood’s signature color — and read proclamations in support of its work. Nashville and San Francisco were two of them.
Here’s more from WSMV News in Tennessee:
Mayor Megan Barry has signed a proclamation in support of Planned Parenthood and is asking the public to support their local branch.
The proclamation is for the organization’s 100th anniversary. It states that Planned Parenthood is “key in the next century to assisting millions of people in accessing the healthcare they need and deserve.”
Nashville lit both the Metro Courthouse and the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge with pink lights on Monday night to honor the abortion chain, according to the report.
To honor Planned Parenthood is to honor its abortion business, which has destroyed almost 7 million babies’ lives. Planned Parenthood does about 320,000 abortions a year, more than any other group in the U.S.
Planned Parenthood’s human rights abuses go back to its roots. The group’s founder, Margaret Sanger, was a well-known eugenicist who promoted sterilization and birth control as ways to “weed out” human beings who she deemed “unfit.”
In the past 100 years, it has aborted at least 6,803,782 unborn babies, according to its own annual reports. Several women also have died after having abortions at Planned Parenthood facilities. Two years ago, it paid a $2 million settlement to the family of an Illinois women who died from a botched abortion at one of its facilities. The Planned Parenthood facility reportedly waited five hours before sending the woman to the hospital and never called 911.
Pro-life leaders also are looking into another abortion-related death in Michigan involving a young woman named Cree Erwin. Erwin died just three days after she had an abortion at the Planned Parenthood facility in Kalamazoo on June 30, 2016, according to records obtained by Operation Rescue.
More recently, the abortion giant also has faced public scrutiny for its potentially illegal sales of aborted baby body parts. In connection to the scandal, last week the Orange County District Attorney’s Office filed a lawsuit against two California companies that allegedly sold aborted baby parts from Planned Parenthood.
The abortion chain also has been caught failing to report the sexual abuse of young girls. Undercover investigations by Live Action revealed some of its employees were willing to help cover up child sex trafficking, and others gave very young teens dangerous advice about practicing sadomasochism, or torture sex, viewing pornography online and circumventing laws that require parental involvement in reproductive health decisions.
ACTION: Complain to Mayor Megan Barry by going here.
