Fr. Voigt, "Passions unchecked kill; Prayer perfected resurrects"
A desperate father runs to our Lord and beseeches Him to come quickly for his son is at the point of dying.
Our Lord's response seems cruel but there is purpose behind it. "Unless you people see signs and wonders you do not believe." The insistent father loves his son so much that in humility he continued to plead until Our Lord stated: "Go on your way. Your son lives." It was at the hour of prayer that this statement came from the mouth of the Son of God. The father believed, trusted and went on his way. On his way home one of the servants rushed up to him with the news that the boy is alive and well. It was at the seventh hour that this miracle took place and the man and his household came to believe.
There is a very significant message symbolized by this miracle of our Lord. The boy represents the passions in each of us born of a woman. Our passions can take over in our lives and lead us to the point of death. Why? because we make the emotional life more significant than the spiritual life. The father represents love that seeks life for the one driven by emotions. Intercession is a vital Christian act which seeks through prayer to bring life back to a degenerating society cemented in passions.
That society is here today and hell is breaking out everywhere. Passion and emotion have told reason to get lost.
With reason out of the picture debates become one person exposing the passions of the other person. There is no longer a concern for the purpose of the state which is to aid the citizen in the acquisition of eternal life. No, all that matters is the economy, stupid! What has America come to if not the to the point of death. Catholics have a significant vocation in this world but they, too, are following the mood of the moment and are more concerned with the sensual rather than the spiritual.
Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe. Our Lady gave us the sign and the message that can heal this dying society. We must pray and do penance. Note how the father's prayer developed in the story. He first petitioned for his dying son, then he accepted in humility the word of the master and went home; then the faith came to perfection through the answered prayer. We must believe that our intercessory rosaries for the conversion of Russia and the collegial consecration will work. Our trust in our Father's Word made Flesh allows us to work each day seeking to save the souls of sinners who have no one else to pray and make sacrifice for them. You and I are the salt of the earth and the light of the world; we cannot deny our vocation to bring eternity back to materialistic earth.
Take your time and prayer a complete rosary day after day for it is more important now than ever before. Communism is eroding the very foundations of the American spiritual life and soon there will be only a shell of atheism to cling to and it has no substance. Take the passions to task and mortify your senses as a means of doing the penance Our Mother called us to and realize that freedom of the spirit which claims eternal life for our souls no matter what the outcome of this current election. Vote your conscience and your Catholic faith be not confused by the darkness of sin which colors the life of the worldly. Seek peace only in doing the will of God. Pray for the Pope's conversion and the leadership necessary to carry out the wishes of God Himself. Only the Consecration will assure us that era of peace is beginning and we willall cry "Viva Cristo Re!"
