WE HAVE MOVED!

"And I beheld, and heard the voice of one eagle flying through the midst of heaven,
saying with a loud voice: Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth....

Fr. Voigt, "I AM NOT LIKE THE REST OF MEN"

"I AM NOT LIKE THE REST OF MEN"
By: Fr. Voigt
"Remember man that thou are dust and unto dust thou shall return."
We are all the same.  We come from the "humus" (the soil) and God infused within our bodies a soul.  This soul is so precious that one should accept even physical death to avoid sin in all its forms.  The sickness of our age is captured in the simple vice known as pride.  Pride combats the virtue of humility through its rebellious desire to believe that one's talents belong to oneself or that one deserves these gifts from God.  In arrogance one considers that he "is not like the rest of men."

God resists the proud and gives His graces to the humble.  Humility is the root of the solution that our age needs with all its resources, its pleasures, its attachments.  Humble thyself and know that the Lord is God and we are nothing.  St. John of the Cross exemplified the depths of humility in accepting a hole in the ground as his living space in this world and in the religious order of the Carmelites.  Today that humility must find itself in the leadership of the structure of the Catholic Church which must come to obey the desire of God Himself that
the Immaculate Heart of Mary receive the consecration of Russia.  If that humility brings our Pope and the Bishops in union with him to do this simple act then the result is divine peace.

Humility is the pathway returning man to union with God.  It is the pathway that presents the three expressions of divine love exemplified by the human nature of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
He humbled himself to be born of the virgin (humiliation of incarnation); He humbled himself to be crucified (humiliation of crucifixion); and he humbled Himself to be the Bread of Life (the humiliation of holy communion).  In the major movements of Jesus' life humility is the key to understanding the pathway from sin to grace (friendship with God).

Humility combats our desire to "lord it over others" and enslave them to our will.  Humility removes the insatiable desire for pleasures as if we deserve them.  Humility conquers the wrath and anger that drives us to dominate our children, the work place or our spouse.
Humility recognizes the demonic presence in gluttony, in splendid homes, in fine apparel, in flatterers and in public office.  All is dust and a chasing after the wind.  It can all be taken away in an instant because we are debtors and not masters.  Humility teaches us the truth about our human nature:  we are fallen.

The solution is the Publican Position.  Kneel down, beat your breast and repeat over and over:  "Have mercy on me, a sinner, o Lord"  This humility sends us home forgiven and loved by a God Who took His own medicine.  It will produce within our spiritual life the virtues of prudence and wisdom knowing where we came from and where we wish to go.  St. Basil tells us that we should "Recognize yourself for what you are:  another Adam cast forth from Paradise (Gen. 3:24).  Oh, the marvelous virtue of humility is so freeing and so strong in leading us to the kingdom of God.  Love this virtue and seek the humiliations that can yield the holiness necessary for the soul's salvation.

In the humble hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt
