Resistance: Father Voigt (Reflection), "The Unjust Steward"
Who
is this unjust steward that can purchase his way into the lives of other
debtors by minimizing their debts? Is he human or is he spiritual?
Is he one who can control the debts of others or is this nothing more
than a guise? Once we come to the reality that God created each of His creatures with talents and gifts then we realize every one of us, spiritual and human, owe a great debt to the One Who called us into existence.
Then we can begin to see the real action that opens up the meaning of today's gospel.
than a guise? Once we come to the reality that God created each of His creatures with talents and gifts then we realize every one of us, spiritual and human, owe a great debt to the One Who called us into existence.
Then we can begin to see the real action that opens up the meaning of today's gospel.
It is known as the Parable of Scoundrels because everyone is corrupted in
the story that Our Lord told. So let's go behind this story and come to
the eternal realities it teaches. The Triune God created angels and
among the angels He created one with so much knowledge that he was called
the "Light Bearer". He should have been the one to pass on the gifts of
light that God had abundantly gifted him. This is the law that runs
through our natures: give as it has been given to thee. The more we
share of our talents and give God the glory for them; then they increase.
But Lucifer became blinded by the brilliance of his gifts and grasped at
"equality" with God.
In an eternal moment he lost the friendship of God and became a rejected
steward.
Now he was cast down to the earth to test humanity, one and all.
He calls us to himself and says to us "You don't have to worry about
perfecting yourself." We, as debtors, owe God one hundred jars of oil.
The centenary number indicates the perfection of the individual through
the works of mercy both spiritual and corporal.
To
be told that you can cut your goodness in half and it will still be pleasing
to God is deception number one. It causes the second deception which has to do with our faith. You need
only pay God 80 cords of wheat. This is the depletion of our faith.
It means that error can exist with truth. When one begins to cut
back on the good works that produce the oil of our salvation then one begins to
lose and compromise with the fullness of faith.
Now the plot thickens even more. The devil is the most cunning of
creatures and desires that our souls be damned with him. His desire
is to deplete the souls that will enjoy eternal happiness with God because they
believed
His Word made Flesh and carried out the
injunction to love the Lord our
God with our whole heart (100%), whole mind
and all our strength and to
love our neighbor as ourselves. This is
impossible if we follow
the unjust steward and take our debt and minimize it. We cannot achieve
eternal salvation by fraud. We must be one hundred per cent behind the
Path that our Lord gave us through His Cross. There is no other way
to pay the debt that we all owe to our Father in heaven.
May we not be deceived by this world, the Conciliar Church, the pleasures of
the material order. All is a compromise from the fullness of faith
which stimulates the acts of goodness called the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. These narrow ways lead to the beauty of eternal life.
Anything else robs us of the joys of union with our Lord and our
Lady. Who would want to risk eternal life for a pleasurable existence in
this passing world of ours. Keep your eyes focused on the Truth,
reject all error no matter where is comes from and hold onto the works of
charity that bring about the good of souls.
In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Fr. Richard Voigt
