Eat UnWorthily?
By: Eric Gajewski
Therefore
whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord
unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. [28] But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread,
and drink of the chalice. [29] For he
that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself,
not discerning the body of the Lord. 1
Corinthians 11: 27-29
On this Holy Thursday let us reflect
adequately enough in order to understand fully how painful it is to the Sacred
Heart when we eat of Him unworthily. Let
us make sure we are getting to Mass early enough to reflect on His goodness;
let us make sure we are spending sometime therein after Mass to both thank Him
and make that firm resolution to avoid all sin.
Please God or please the self and the world? There are still so many who schedule Mass
around there other affairs! As if the
Body and Blood of Our Lord is not the central focus of our hearts. Where have hearts gone? The world and affairs not centered around our
very Life itself?
The poor Protestants do not eat of
Our Lord, of which, the Word says, they shall not have everlasting life (in
rebellion). We eat not only because we
need Him but we eat because we know this pleases Him. We come as eagles gathering around His Body
ready to eat that which is alive! The
poor heretics, these sparrows, can only eat that which is dead for they are
inwardly dead (objectively speaking).
What a wonderful grace and blessing it is to eat of Him who helps us to
grow in Selfless Love. Therefore those
who stay close to this Sacrament stay near to His Heart and thus shalst not
remain stagnant in the interior life.
Yea, there are still many who
slumber. They arrive late to Mass and
leave early frequently. They center
their day around affairs rather than Christ Himself. We eat, drink and breathe on the account of
His blessings and graces and yet we push him off to a far corner in our hearts
and minds. We do not take time e out
daily in silence and solitude to greet Him let alone on days we are preparing
to eat of Him. We make excuse after excuse and expect Him to call us “friend”? Let us consider more deeply this Holy
Thursday that He is the center of our very existence and that He calls us daily
to a more intimate knowledge of this Heart at Mass. Are you attentive to His desires or is it all
about you? Do you try to win the lost
for Christ? Do you suffer in union with His Heart for conversions? Or are you watching the clock at Mass because
your day is already preoccupied with things other than Christ? Saints are those who had a past and had skeleton’s
in the closet. Yet, saints are sinners who over time learned to break wholly
free of the self and to keep this self locked in the closet. Where the Body is so too shalst the eagles
gather. Let us keep our nest’s free of
any clutter that might prohibit our bringing home of His flesh, amen
