In the pursuit of perfection that, every Christian must undertake, we are going to find that we are our own worst enemies.  We set out to do something but we don’t .  We promise Jesus this or that and fall short.  Although, we must pursue perfection we must understand that we are going to fail and often times fail miserably.  Welcome to the human race.  The Saints have said that we should not beat ourselves up over these imperfections but rather be encouraged that this is all apart of following Christ.  Padre Pio, in His Letters, speak to the same subject and advises his spiritual daughters not to fall into despair for so long as you love Jesus this pleases Jesus.  He knows we are not Him and thus need His grace.  Let me cover some areas to consider in this battle against self and the rooting out of self-love.

Father Pellegrino Funicelli, who assisted Padre Pio for many years, once asked him: “Today you denied absolution to a woman because she had voluntarily undergone an abortion. Why have you been so rigorous with this poor unfortunate?”

Padre Pio responded: “The day that people lose their horror for abortion will be the most terrible day for humanity. Abortion is not only a homicide but also a suicide. Shouldn’t we have the courage to manifest our faith before those who commit two crimes within one act?"

“Suicide?” asked Father Pellegrino.

“The suicide of the human race will be understood by those who will see the earth populated by the elderly and depopulated of children: burnt as a desert,” Padre Pio replied.

I typically read about a dozen entries of Padre Pio in His Letters nightly.  In these entries it truly shows what a Victim soul he was.  There was never really a day that went by that he wasn’t attacked by the devils or handed some heavy Cross to alleviate the pain of Jesus.  This article covers his entry on September 18, 1915.  It is essentially a synopsis of all his entries.  It is truly heart wrenching.  He starts by praising Jesus for all things which is what we all should do.  Under the pain he constantly submits to his superiors and God’s Will.  Not only does he ask for direction he also gives direction unto his directors in return.  His main concern is keeping Jesus happy and focusing in on the salvation of souls.  Imagine if Catholics did this today?  Actually have that as priority number one.  He is so under the weight of the Cross he often cries out for death to be with Jesus and suggests he doesn’t know how much longer he can hold out.  This is true Love.  In this entry Padre Pio talks about being schooled in silence and hope under the wings of trial and tribulation and I suggest to you these are the times we find ourselves in.

I have recently be rereading Padre Pio’s Letters.  It is a 3 volume set in which he is talking with his spiritual directors and also providing direction for his spiritual daughters.  It is quite revealing to say the least.  It talks about Padre Pio’s own war within his soul.  It goes into detail the ongoing war with the devils which almost seem to be nightly for him.  Over time, as he spiritually advanced, he dialogued with his Guardian Angel, the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus.  He was reprimanded at times by our Queen and King which is quite interesting considering how precious his soul was to Jesus and Mary.  We, ourselves, must continue to be at work within and keep our salvation as the priority.  Nevertheless, I recently talked about Our Lord’s anger at the priests of Padre Pio’s time because a good number were becoming FreeMasons!  This was 4 years even before Fatima in 1913.  Christ called those priests “butcher’s!”.  Can you imagine the language He would use to describe these Vatican II priests who have joined in the Revolution.  Let us say, in more general terms, it will not go well for these priests (unless acquitted through invincible ignorance perhaps).

Around 1960 the famous Roman exorcist Gabriele Amorth (+2016) met Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (+1968) and talked with him about the third secret of Fatima. Amorth speaks about this in an interview from 2011, published only recently as a book entitled "The Best Kept Secret of Fatima".

Padre Pio told Father Amorth: "Satan has been introduced into the bosom of the Church and he will within a very short time come to rule a false Church." Amorth says that Padre Pio was "really tormented" by one issue that is "the great apostasy within the Church".

Relics of St Padre Pio, a Capuchin priest who bore the stigmata of Jesus, will be on public display in several US dioceses and archdioceses in May and again in the autumn.
The Saint Pio Foundation announced that the tour corresponds with the 130th anniversary of the Italian-born saint’s birth.
The tour will include 12 locations nationwide starting on May 6-8 at the Cathedral of Ss Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.
Hours that each site will be open for veneration and other events related to the tour were to be announced by each diocese.
