Hurricane Irma’s power aside, it’s been a while since the Atlantic
has been this active. There are now 3 active hurricanes in the Atlantic
Ocean, something that hasn’t happened in nearly 7 years, dating back to
September of 2010. While it’s not unheard of, especially this time of
year as we roll through peak hurricane season, it’s not all that common.
You have the long watched and talked about Irma heading generally
toward Florida, but its final destination is still a mystery. Meanwhile
Jose formed earlier in the week in the wake of Irma.
Because it’s following such a powerful hurricane, the likelihood of it becoming nearly as strong as Irma is almost zero. That being said, conditions remain favorable for it to continue churning as a hurricane for a while before likely curving back out to sea in a few days. Then there’s Katia. It’s far closer to the U.S. than the other two, but poses no threat to the States because the trough that moved through here and eventually into the Gulf of Mexico will take it slowly south and push it into Mexico. Hurricane Irma could impact every major city in Florida
Hurricane Irma poses the most significant threat to Florida in memory
— and “this is the kind of storm that you read about in the history
books,” said Bryan Norcross, senior hurricane specialist at The Weather
Channel. “This has the possibility of running up the peninsula and
affecting every major city in the state. It’s not certain that that’s
what’s going to happen, but it certainly is a possibility,” Norcross
said
Wednesday. “We don’t know what is going to happen exactly. But we know what the range of possibilities is — and this is a situation where the top of that range is extraordinarily extreme,” he said. “This is the kind of storm that I always pictured when I read the history books about the great Florida hurricanes of the past and imagined how they would impact the modern state.” READ MORE

Miami mayor warns people to evacuate immediately as 185mph mega-storm barrels towards Florida
Hundreds of thousands of Miami residents and tourists have been urged
to flee now as “nuclear” Hurricane Irma barrels towards the US. The
mayor of Miami Beach ordered people to urgently “get out” of the area as
the killer storm heads straight for Florida after battering the
Caribbean with 185mph winds. At least 10 people have been killed and
dozens injured after the most powerful Atlantic Ocean storm ever
recorded pummelled a string of Caribbean islands on a devastating path
towards America.
Mayor Philip Levine stressed that anyone left in the Miami beach area after last night’s mandatory evacuation “must leave”. “This storm will envelope us whether it is off shore or on shore. It won’t make a difference,” Mayor Levine told CBS4. He added: “I’ll do anything in my power to convince [people] this is a very serious storm. This is a nuclear hurricane. They should leave the beach, they must leave the beach.” READ MORE
