Path
To Perfection: Protect Me Under Thy
Wings (Psalms 16:8)
By: Eric Gajewski
Psalms
16:8 “Protect me under the shadow of thy wings.”
David
cries out to God in Chapter 16 for protection against his enemies. If we are truly seeking to become perfect
according to Christianity than we know we are going to face many obstacles in
our lives. What is your current
intention? Is it the straight and narrow
path to His Sacred Heart found on the seventh floor of the Fortress? Are you seeking God’s will and seeing God’s
will? First seek then resign. For in this fight of the soul in order for it
to take to flight there will be many “enemies” to overcome. Our chief enemy is ourself. Than we have to consider the “temptor”
himself. Than after that assuredly, like
Jesus, we will have our own detractors and naysayers trying to convince the
public that you are something that you really are not. You will be oppressed because that is what we
Christians suffer. We will all have our
own Chapter 16 moments where will call out to God and seek protection under His
wings. For He is our Divine Eagle.
Psalms
16:3 Thou hast proved my heart, and visited it by night, thou hast tried me by
fire: and iniquity hath not been found in me.
As I mentioned our goal must be to have our hearts unite with His Heart
in Union. We must prove our hearts. Thus, we must grow in grace, virtues and
ultimately holiness. The transition from
the natural to supernatural is painful. Yes,
it is truly hellish. Nevertheless, we
must have confidence in God to see us through all of crosses and trials for He
specifically hand chooses them for you.
Notice how David said his heart was visited at night. Mystically speaking before one can start “absorbing”
the Divine Light and Fire once must be purified first. The dark night has been spoken about by so
many mystics and I find that so many are missing out on these works because
they are getting to entangled on the internet these days. Remember you are not going to advance your
soul because you out-debated someone on the internet today. David was tried by Fire which at first will
be hell on earth to a soul. Yet over
time the wood begins to soften and ultimately becomes One with the Flame. On this path to perfection we must guard over
our hearts and avoid even venial sin if we are to come to rest in His Sacred
Heart. On the surface, it sounds
impossible but with God all things are possible. The deification of man involves a lot of
blood, sweat and tears and so with each day make it your goal to be advancing
in the Way of Selfless Love. If you are
not advancing ultimately you will be retreating back towards self.
Our
model. Psalms 16:5 Perfect thou my goings in thy paths. Christ is our model. He demonstrated to the world how a soul gains
entrance into heaven to behold the Blessed Trinity forever. Like a good football team each soul must do
its job. We must be trying to perfect
all of our intentions so as to root out all of the impediments. I will have to be getting a wisdom tooth
pulled soon (at some point) and this called to mind this analogy. God has to get at the very core of our
self-love. Sometimes we think we are
truly dead to ourselves than God throws a harsh trial in our way and we find we
don’t want to do it (as self would dictate).
Like a root canal the purification process is not fun. However, you can either go to the Dentist
here and allow him to extract that tooth which has deep roots or you can do it
in Purgatory. In either case the process
must be accomplished. Recall how it took
St. Catherine of Siena about three years of ongoing intense sufferings to reach
the Spiritual Marriage. We cannot fear
nor be discouraged although sometimes it seems far-fetched that God might be
calling you to perfection. But He is! The upcoming Tribulation will give plenty of
opportunities and ultimately prepare us for heaven so that we don’t have to do
Purgatory or at least do very little time there. Therefore, like David we must say perfect my
goings in thy paths. We have the tools
given by the Church but do you have the Will?
