WINDS OF AGREEMENT

WINDS OF AGREEMENT

"What we do know, because he told us, it is that "Pope" Francis wants to convey an attitude of live and let live to the Extraordinary Form."

"Politics attributable directly to the Holy Father has smiled on the SSPX".
An extraordinary turn of events...

Catholic Herald (excerpt)

Francisco confuses those who presented him as an enemy of traditionalism. The movement is really flourishing thanks to its attitude of "live and let live".

We have highlighted some parts in bold.

By Joseph Shaw, president of the Latin Mass Society (Pseudo-Trad)
Those expecting Pope Francisco put the brakes on the traditional liturgy, released by Benedict XVI, have reason to be disappointed. Just last week Liverpool Archbishop Malcolm McMahon announced that the impressive church of Santa Maria Pugin, in Warrington, became a center for the extraordinary charge of the Fraternity of St. Peter. This brings to five the number of English dioceses that have hosted or fraternity or the Institute of Christ the King, another priestly institute dedicated to the traditional liturgy.

Each of these traditionalists institutes has ordered a young cleric in England and Wales this summer. This is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, a British diocese has formally established a bi-ritualistic parish, where both forms of the Roman Rite, the Ordinary and Extraordinary, is one beside the other held. In November, Cardinal Raymond Burke will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for children and adults around the country in London, in the extraordinary form, at the request of the Latin Mass Society.

Even those who had not prejudged the papacy of Pope Francisco may be surprised with these developments, which are not confined to England. The political attributable directly to the Holy Father has smiled on the SSPX, a priestly institute dedicated to the traditional liturgy, which It was supposedly abolished in 1975 and has been operating since then without the supervision of Rome.
Formal theological discussions to the SSPX to restore a correct position, seemed to end in failure under Benedict XVI, but have continued the friendly gestures from the Vatican.
Pursuant to the policy of Pope Francisco when he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, the SSPX has just been recognized as a Catholic group by the Argentine government for administrative purposes. Members of the SSPX they were still allowed to celebrate Mass in the basilica of important places of pilgrimage, Lourdes and Lisieux.
Many observers were shocked when they heard that the leader of the SSPX, Msgr. Bernard Fellay, was appointed "trial judge" by the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in the standard procedures for a priest of the SSPX. Fellay said later that such practical arrangements have been routine for 10 years. Those who have been saying that the SSPX is not only "irregular" but now "schismatic", have had to resign.
Despite these impressive gains, many Pope Francisco portrayed as an implacable enemy of the traditionalist movement. They built this version and n about the difficulties the Franciscans of the Immaculate, a young vigorous order that was increasingly friendly to the Extraordinary Form, speaking the Congregation for Religious and put under new management. In this case the treatment can be added to various bishops and prelates Tradition friends.
These incidents have not happened accidentally, but how they fit into the great Franciscan plan is difficult to determine. In each case there are complicating factors, such as church policies and strong personalities. Even together, they do not override the other things that are happening. It may be that the pope Francisco not need or want a policy more consistent appearances, if that would make ignore important differences that exist between the cases. It could also be that these events are not attributable directly to the Holy Father.
What we do know, because he told us, it is that Pope Francis wants to convey an attitude of live and let live to the Extraordinary Form. It is clear that he has no wish to impose liturgical vision of the Church and is not overly concerned about the legal niceties. His focus is elsewhere, in a series of practical and urgent pastoral problems.   In the liturgical, he seems pleased that events take their course. On the legal status of the SSPX, would be more open than the Conservatives fries something incomplete, a practical arrangement as a step in the right direction. He has created a space for a less heated debate, an opportunity for priests and lay people to experience both the old and the new and, hopefully and with the Holy Spirit, a process of best practice liturgical, in any of the two forms, replacing what is not very good.

On balance, the Franciscan pontificate is not preventing the rediscovery of tradition clergy and lay Catholics. Some well-intentioned official tweaks, however, always involves the danger that the stability and consistency of the old Missal compromised. A few decades to make blind eye [benign neglect]   It may be exactly what you need the movement for the extraordinary form.
