NUMBERS TELL THE STORY BEYOND

Who are these 4000 that wandered into a desert place following the Good Shepherd?
Where did they come from and why did they stay without food or drink? Finally, do these numbers mean more than catches the eye? It was not the intelligent elite of the Jewish community that came out to see, hear and be healed by the Prophet. No, it was the poor, the sick, the simple of the people who found hope and health in the words and works of our Lord.
For thee days they remained with Him not eating but listening and experiencing physical and spiritual healing. How could they concern themselves with anything so trivial as food. They did
not expect to be feed in the wilderness; they only wishes to be at His
Side. For the 3 days represent the teaching of the Trinity and the
desire of God (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) to repair the breach that sin caused between man and His God. The number 4 reminds us of the evangelists who wrote down the words that attracted and healed the multitude.
Our Lord did not limit Himself to the gentile 4000 but includes each of us who will listen to the Words that these four saints passed on to us as a testimony of the love of the Triune God.
Jesus turned to his elite who had witnessed the multiplication of the loaves and fish among the 5000 and asked them to feed the 4000. But they only had 7 loaves; these loaves represent the 7 gifts of the Holy Ghost which feed each of us in the knowledge that begets eternal desires.
Taking
these loaves Our Lord gave thanks and distributed them to his apostles
who then gave them to the multitude seated upon the ground indicating
their detachment to the things of this world.
They received heavenly food and are satisfied. Hence the apostles collected the 7 baskets of fragments. The fragments of our lives will not be cast off as a waste but rather collected for the glory of God for in our weaknesses God's power will reach its perfection.
All of this comes about because we have a taste for the word of God expressed in the works of God. Through our study of the word which exposes the life of the Trinity the 7 Gifts of the Holy Ghost guide us to the eternal destiny prepared for those who love God. Our Love of God is the springboard
of gifts of the Holy Ghost so often forgotten by the Catholic faithful.
We wallow in the shallowness of life because we fail to get beyond the
letter of the Word and hence never taste the sweetness
of the Spirit. Take the opportunity and the pleasure to read, reflect
and contemplate the gospel of Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
daily.
May you capture the freedom that God's word of Truth possesses and never let governments or human respect enslave you again.
