Immortality Reclaimed

 Immortality Reclaimed
Fr. Voigt, The Resistance

"Remember Man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return."  These words that come to us on Ash Wednesday remind each of us of our mortality.  We were not created to die but we lost the special gifts that God wished to bestow upon our nature:  infused knowledge, impassibility and immortality.  These gifts were not owed to us and so our fall into the deceit of Satan robbed us of these spiritual treasures.  Wouldn't it be great to recover these gifts?  We can.

In the first place we can recover the knowledge that brings us to love our wondrous Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit through a discipline of study.  Study the word of God and the wisdom that comes from God is available to each of us. Most fail to give much time to the word of the Lord while they linger in the words of men hour after hour watching a television set.  Then we wonder why we speak in such worldly ways.  We sow the seed of God's word and we will reap the wisdom to seek to save our souls.  If we sow the seed of the world's word we become crafty, cunning, rude and critical.  The words we use indicate the Father we choose.  How many of falling into the hands of a tyrant.

Now consider the gift of impassibility.  If we study the mechanism of the body then we recognize the miracle that we are.  If we take normal care of the body it will serve us well.  When we use the body to make reparation for sin then we find that the body becomes a servant to the soul.
As the body loses, the soul gains and vice versa.  When the soul gains then the body is taken care of in a manner acceptable to God.  Then no matter what happens to it we can accept it as the will of God and save our soul and the souls of others.  Once we enter the kingdom of God there will be no more sickness and no more suffering.  We are free today when we come to the conclusion that God, my Father, knows best what will bring me to heaven.

Finally, the issue is immortality reclaimed.  Today we have the answer to this most significant gift.  God, our Father, sent His only begotten Son to give us the food of immortality.  This food is the flesh and blood of His Son.  He who eats my body and drinks my Blood possesses life everlasting.  Immortality is simply a Mass away from each of us.  In every holy mass the gift of immortality is offered to each of us.  This gift increases our friendship with our Lord and as long as we do not sin mortally we remain in Him and He remains in us.  What a consolation in this mortal world.

Look around and see the immortal ones.  They are those who love the most holy Eucharist and receive the Body and Blood of Jesus as often as they can.  Truly we can receive Him daily even if we are not able to go to holy mass.  Put into your daily schedule 15 minutes to invite Him spiritually into your hearts.  Don't let a day pass without a communion with our Lord.  You can do this and you must do this in order to increase the fruit of immortality, true union and increased love for our Lord.  You will pass from glory to glory as you make the Love of God the center of your mortal life in this world.

Yes, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity is with us.  Can God have given us a greater gift than His own divine Son?  Treasure your communion with Him and seek to give Him the glory that is due to Him.  What more could He do for you?  He has returned all the gifts which were lost in the fall of our first parent and now dust has a destiny.  To live in Him, with Him and through Him.  Glory to our God forever.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt
