NC School District Removes First Grade Book About Dress-Wearing Boy Following Complaints

How would you like to know that your first-grade boys were going to be reading a book depicting a little boy who liked wearing dresses? Why was this book going to be n the classroom? Because apparently, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools had originally planned to make the book “Jacob’s New Dress” a part of their anti-bullying reading plan for Child Abuse Prevention Month.  However, now the school district has decided to pull the book after teachers have reportedly complained about its content.

Excerpt From The Christian Post:
The publication is a story about a boy who likes to wear a princess dress for playtime at school, but is teased by his peers. “Not very long ago little girls couldn’t wear pants. Can you imagine that?” the teacher tells the class in urging them to be accepting of the child’s dress-wearing. The boy’s mother soon helps him make his very own dress, advising “there are all sorts of ways to be a boy.” The 2014 book, written by Sarah and Ian Hoffman, is meant to teach children about those who are “gender non-conforming.”

Canada Passes Motion to Condemn “Islamophobia”

(By Kelly McDonald, Jr) On Thursday, the Canadian House of Commons passed a bill to condemn Islamophobia, which they define as criticism of Islam. The motion passed 201 to 91. However, Islamophobia is not defined in the bill.
The bill also says that the government of Canada will try to “quell the increasing public climate of hate and fear”. No specific measures were defined in the motion to pursue this goal. Some have immediately come against the bill because of the vague language, which allows for the suppression of free speech. The current Prime Minister, Trudeau, has been open about his support of Muslims. This has the potential for political unrest in America. Stay tuned.

Power Rangers to Feature First Lesbian Character

After we just went through all the controversy over Disney’s first “gay character”, LeFou, in Beauty and the Beast. Now, superhero fans are celebrating a similar milestone with the new release of a classic remake from the 1990’s.  Power Rangers the movie which will be coming to theaters this Friday, will reportedly, feature a character who is questioning her sexuality, director Dean Israelite told Hollywood Reporter editor Aaron Couch.
Trini, the Yellow Ranger, reportedly identifies as queer.  “For Trini, really she’s questioning a lot about who she is,” Israelite explained. “She hasn’t fully figured it out yet. I think what’s great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, ‘That’s OK.’ The movie is saying, ‘That’s OK,’ and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe.”
Of course, David Yost who is the actor who played the blue ranger in the 1990s TV show edition was thrilled to hear the news. “I think so many people in the LGBTQI community are going to be excited to see that representation,” he told Couch. According to Couch, several figures are portrayed as gay in comic books, but have been turned straight for the big screen. These include DC’s Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Batwoman and Harley Quinn, in addition to Marvel’s Ice Man. So will this change your mind about seeing this new movie?

Shock Case: Woman Forced to Stop Praying in Her Home

(By Kelly McDonald, Jr) What if someone asked you to stop praying in your home? In Louisberg, Kansas, a current court case will have huge implications. Mary Sause was in her home on the night of November 22, 2013. Suddenly, she heard someone knock on the door and demand that it be opened. Cautiously, she opened the door to find that two police officers were standing on her door step.

She actually showed them a pocket constitution and asked why they wanted entry into her home. According to Sause, they mocked her, calling the constitution a ‘piece of paper’. During the encounter she asked the officers if she could pray in her back room. She was initially allowed to do so, but one of the officers eventually ordered her to stop. Before they left, they told her that they were there in response to a loud radio. She was charged with interference and disorderly conduct.

School Orders Boy to “Tolerate” Undressing with Girl and Make it “Natural”

(Reported By Todd Starnes) A teenage boy was told by his principal that he had to “tolerate” undressing in front of a female student and to make it as “natural” as possible, according to a blockbuster lawsuit filed in a Pennsylvania federal district court. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by Alliance Defending Freedom and Independence Law Center, alleges the Boyertown Area School District shamed the teenage boy and violated his personal privacy. They are also alleging sexual harassment.
“No school should rob any student of this legally protected personal privacy,” ILC attorney Randall Wenger said. “We trust that our children won’t be forced into emotionally vulnerable situations like this when they are in the care of our schools because it’s a school’s duty to protect and respect the bodily privacy and dignity of all students.” In the case of “Joel Doe” – they clearly ignored that duty.
