Fr. Campbell, "“The Shepherd and Guardian of your souls” (1Pet.2:21-25)"

“The Shepherd and Guardian of your souls” (1Pet.2:21-25)

The world is in Revolution. Society is fast approaching absolute disorder, chaos. This is certainly the work of the devil, the first revolutionary, who led the fallen angels in revolt against the authority of God, and the order established by Him.

The devil, Lucifer, was a super intelligent angel, far superior in intelligence to human beings. He was more brilliant than all the other angels, so brilliant that he thought he could rival God. Holy Scripture speaks of his pride, which caused him to stumble, and he was cast out of Heaven. Thrown down with him were his followers, a vast number of angels now known to us as devils, or demons. They will never see God, nor know Him. The prophet Isaias declares:

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, who didst rise in the morning? How art thou fallen to the earth, that didst wound the nations? And thou saidst in thy heart: I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit in the mountain of the covenant, in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the height of the clouds. I will be like the Most High. But yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, into the depth of the pit” (Is.14:12-15).

Since the devil lost Heaven, was he going to be content to let us go there? It was his hatred and envy that caused him to incite disobedience and rebellion in the human race, a Revolution against the order willed by God for His creation, by cleverly deceiving Adam and Eve.

The devil’s intention is to return the world to the chaos from which it began. But his followers think they can establish a New World Order. The Masonic motto (of the thirty-third degree) is “Ordo ab Chao” (Order out of chaos). Their intention is to bring human society into chaos, so that they can establish their kind of order in the world. But they are deceived by the devil. The New World Order is a fraud, because only God can create order. Without God we are left in chaos, absolute confusion. The devil’s ultimate intention is to turn the whole human race against God. Then, having deceived them, he will destroy them.

Only God can create order because He is Supreme Order. Think of the perfect order of the Blessed Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, three Persons in the perfect Unity of the One God. When human affairs reflect that order, human society flourishes. When God’s order is rejected, chaos is the result – the chaos of Hell.

God’s perfect order was rejected by the Novus Ordo “church” at Vatican II. Chaos prevailed. Cardinal Suenens declared that “Vatican II is the French Revolution in the Church.” Cardinal Ratzinger (later Benedict XVI) confirmed that Vatican II was “an attempt at an official reconciliation of the Church with the world as it has been since 1789” (the year of the French Revolution). Yves Congar, an influential priest “expert” at Vatican II, boasted that the Church had had “its October Revolution” (Communist Revolution in Russia in October, 1917).

With Vatican II, the Novus Ordo “church” adopted the “dialogue” invented by the early Marxist revolutionaries. We are now to have “respect” for other peoples’ beliefs, no matter how far they are from the truth. Catholics dialogue with Jews, Muslims, and the communities of the so-called Reformation. The object is no longer to arrive at the truth, but to arrive at a “consensus”. Everything that gets in the way of the relationships is sidelined. Strongly held convictions are laid aside, meaning that a Catholic is likely to lose his faith.

A prime example of this is Francis Bergoglio, to whom friendly relationships with his Jewish or Muslim friends are more important than the teachings of Christ and His Church. More than that, he is impatient to have all Catholics engage in such dialogue, where they will lose their Catholic Faith, just as he has, if he ever had any to begin with.

Our Lord Jesus Christ told His Apostles, “Go into the whole world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mk.16:15). But now the Novus Ordo “church” no longer preaches the Gospel. It dialogues! To Francis there is no need for anyone to become Catholic or to be baptized. They can all be saved where they are, no matter what they believe.

On Holy Thursday Francis washed the feet of Muslims, Hindus, and Coptic Christians, as well as Novus Ordo Catholics. He should have been pouring water on their heads, baptizing them. But to Francis we are all brothers who worship the same god, whether we call him Jesus Christ, Allah, Buddha, or whatever. Who needs Baptism?

We can take no vacation from the Revolution. It is relentless, and it is everywhere. The worldly man will be devoured. Only the spiritual person will find rest, because in spite of the devil’s brilliant intellect, he has no understanding of truly spiritual realities. To them he is blind, like the “sensual man” spoken about by St. Paul:

“But the sensual man does not perceive the things that are of the Spirit of God, for it is foolishness to him, and he cannot understand…” (1Cor.2:14).

Then the closer we are to God, the safer we are from the devil and his Revolution, so that he cannot reach us, as the psalm says:

“For this shall every faithful man pray to you in time of stress. Though deep waters overflow, they shall not reach him. You are my shelter; from distress you will preserve me; with glad cries of freedom you will ring me round” (Ps.31:6,7).

The words of the Epistle of today’s Mass should give confidence and peace to our hearts:

“Christ has suffered for you, leaving you an example that you may follow in His steps: ‘Who did no sin, neither was deceit found in His mouth.’ Who when He was reviled did not revile; when He suffered, did not threaten, but yielded Himself to him who judged Him unjustly; Who Himself bore our sins in His body upon the tree, that we, having died to sin, might live to justice; and by His stripes you were healed. For you were as sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls” (1Pet.2:21-25).
