Psalm 77: Forgetfulness, Ingratitude, and Complaining Might Get You Killed

Psalm 77: Forgetfulness, Ingratitude, and Complaining Might Get You Killed
By: Eric Gajewski
Souls wandering in the desert of purification must learn to recognize their Source and End, be grateful and quit complaining or it may cost you both body and soul ...

Is it ever a "good thing" to be ungrateful to God?  To forget all of his wonders and benefits as mere human beings? Ought we be complaining for the things we dont have or rather be focusing on those things God keeps us from because He knows it will harm our soul.  We all must reflect upon these things because how often do we slip and act like the Israelites in the desert.  In the early stages of the interior life a soul is searching.  They have not found the Beloved in spiritual marriage and thus it is thru grace that God draws the soul closer to Him.  Let us consider these three impediments which not only will keep the soul stagnant it may very well cost you both your life and soul...literally

First, we must always recognize our God as Source and End.  Ps. 77:11 And they forgot his benefits, and his wonders that he had shewn them.  Can we move on to being grateful to God if we act as if He is not even in our "living quarters"?  What would it be like like on a first date if the person you took out on a date didn't even act as if you were sitting across from the table from them?  Thus, it is the same with God.  If we are not praying we are not recognizing.  If we are not recognizing how thence can we give God the glory?   It is true man does not live on bread alone but He can not survive interiorly without His Creator.  I do not believe there is any "significant other" who would take it lightly in regards to being forgotten about on Valentines Day or on their anniversary.  Yet, we as human "trainwrecks" forget to even act as if God is our true Source and End.

Second, if we are not forgetting, then we must ask ourselves, honestly, if we are truly being grateful?  Great, you recognize God as Source and End but are you truly thankful in every breath and blessing He gives?  Do you thank Him for every glass of water and every morsel of bread?  Man is about to find out in the soon food shortages, riots and economic collapse that man alone is not sufficient.  Modern man finds it hard to thank anyone for anything because we live in a self saturated society wherein the "law of the jungle" prevails.  Who needs God when I can order a pizza and get in 15 minutes flat! Who needs God when everything is seemingly at our fingertips. Who needs God asketh the modern man and Wisdom replieth, "the humble man needest his God".  "Great men" of the world often fail to be grateful but the humble and unseen men always seek their God who is great. Yea, if you fail to be grateful God will cause you to wander in circles in the desert of purification.

Lastly, you do at times give thanks but you still want more!  Ps. 77: 17-19  And they added yet more sin against him: they provoked the most High to wrath in the place without water. And they tempted God in their hearts, by asking meat for their desires.  And they spoke ill of God: they said: Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? This is man's first problem; that you should even want anything other than God and His will in the first place.  It sounds harsh and not unattainable but we have the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints to look for as models and also to intercede for us. God just gave you a new car BUT it wasn't a Lexus. God just gave you a 3 percent raise at work BUT "I wanted 5 percent".  God just gave you a whole hour to yourself to do whatever you like BUT you choose to watch the ball game or a soap opera. "I want" is truly a killer....Replace the "I want's" with I have all that I need" and the peace of God will begin to soak deep into your soul.  Complaining pertains to self and thankfulness pertains to grace. It is true rather than meditate upon the wonder of God we wonder what God can do for us next as if God were subservient to man and then complain when we don't get our way. And what way is this a man shall ask and Wisdom shalst replieth, "it is the way of self and the path unto hell..."

Scripture for meditation:

Ps. 77: 8-9
That they may not become like their fathers, a perverse and exasperating generation. A generation that set not their heart aright: and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

We are truly an evil and perverse generation who lives by the law of self. Our hearts are born into self's virus and only the grace of God can heal us. Let us be faithful and order our hearts back unto Him

Ps. 77: 30-31
They were not defrauded of that which they craved. As yet their meat was in their mouth:  And the wrath of God came upon them. And he slew the fat ones amongst them, and brought down the chosen men of Israel.

As Catholics, His now chosen, we must remember that complaining kills the soul but it may literally get you killed.  God does not take this sin very lightly.  He gives us what we need for the day and so as eagles we must not get greedy and spend all day down at the river hoarding fish to bring back to our nest.

Ps. 77: 33-34
And their days were consumed in vanity, and their years in haste. When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned, and came to him early in the morning. And they remembered that God was their helper: and the most high God their redeemer.

Modern man is consumed in vanity. We are a "selfie" generation.  God is about to severly chastise the world in His Love only so that our hearts might be re-routed back unto His Sacred Heart.  We will return as Our Lady at Fatima has promised and we will remember collectively the true God and all His benefits.

Ps. 77:53
And he brought them out in hope, and they feared not: band the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

We will rise again.  It is through Faith and Hope, the wings of an eagle, that will traverse the Great Storm or Test coming.  Perfect Love cast out all fear.  Faith transcends fear, doubt and worry. He shall personally part the seas yet again and we shall be heading to Promised Land in the soon arriving "Triumph of the Immaculate Heart"

Ps. 77: 58
They provoked him to anger on their hills: and moved him to jealousy with their graven things...

Modern man has their gidgets and gadgets which has replaced prayer time with all kinds of distractions.  WE are our own gods modern man says in both his speech and conduct.  Self is modern mans "graven image".. We need not any "gold cow" we are already fat enough using the image we are trying to put out in pride.

Ps 77: 64
Their priests fell by the sword...

Catholic prophecy is quite clear that the good as well as the bad will be killed.  The priests will not be spared for they refuse to put down the Vatican II Revolution.  They remain deaf to the please of Our Lady paying God lip service.

Yea, I shall seek so only to find Thee
For my heart wanders in this desert
Awaiting for thy gently breeze to fill
O' Lord mayest thy grace settle my soul
Amidst all my inordinate desires
As I set out to seek only thy holy Will
For I now see very clearly
It is the self within me that is set out to get me killed
