METEOR SMASHES INTO AUSTRALIA: People left terrified as space rock causes houses to SHAKE

RESIDENTS of Australia were left terrified after what is believed to be a meteor crashed into Queensland.

Locals spotted the meteor which resulted in a huge flash of light that filled the night sky.
The space rock is believed to have crashed off-shore at Turkey Beach and Emerald in Queensland, Australia.

People in the area said the impact caused houses to tremble, with police confirming that they had received several calls in what many had thought was initially an earthquake.
However, Geoscience Australia has stated that there was no quake, with weather forecasters Higgins Storm Chasing saying that “it looks like a meteorite has impacted somewhere offshore”.

Higgins Storm Chasing wrote on its Facebook: “A bright flash or light has been reported by hundreds of people, this light was seen as far South as Hervey Bay and as far North as Yeppoon with a tremor being felt upon impact over the general Gladstone area and Boyne Island.”
Australians took to social media to share their experiences.

Lynette Emerson added: “My husband was putting our the garbage bins when he saw the outside of the house light up.
“He turned around and saw a brilliant meteor or something flash overhead and disappeared over the sea.”

More than 100 earthquakes hit Salton Sea amid quake swarm

More than 100 small earthquakes — including three of a magnitude greater than 4 — struck the Salton Sea area Monday.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the swarm of quakes started early Monday morning and continued into the evening. Quakes measuring 4.3 and 4.2 magnitude occurred Monday night.
Many of the quakes were centered near Bombay Beach. They were felt in a relatively small area around the Salton Sea, according to the USGS.
Swarms of small to moderate earthquakes are fairly common in the area. In 2009, the Salton Sea saw a swarm of more than 200 small quakes.
The sea sits atop a very thin crust that is being constantly stretched as the North American and Pacific plates grind against each other. The area is also veined by dozens of faults — most notably the San Andreeas -- that run parallel to and crisscross one another.

Scientists believe that because of the thinness of the crust, hotter material can get closer to the surface and cause temblors.
Seismologist Lucy Jones said on Twitter on Monday night that magnitude 4 quakes near the San Andreas “increase the chance” of a big quake “a little bit. But we have swarms without big [earthquakes] — most likely nothing more will happen.”

Once in a generation flood strikes town in New South Wales, Australia

Rising floodwaters expected to inundate two rural NSW towns may cause problems with power and sewage for several days, despite lower and later-than-predicted peaks. Residents at Forbes are being advised to evacuate as the Lachlan River swells to an estimated peak of 10.7m by midnight Sunday following 17mm of rain overnight Saturday.
The ADF, NSWFRS, RFS and SES are at nearby Condobolin, building barricades with sandbags as they wait for the water to arrive, and it’s likely authorities will be busy in the area for another few weeks, SES spokeswoman Sue Pritchard said. “It’s slow to rise and slow to fall,” she said on Sunday evening. The weather is perfect for a beach day, but the water far from it. “It’s our first time coming to Siesta Key,” said beachgoer Robert Carney. I heard a lot about it, wanted to come check it out, and we found out first hand unfortunately, they get red tide.” A walk on the beaches of North Longboat Key, and it becomes clear where red tide gets its name. The water a deep rusty color and thousands of dead fish line the shore.
At Siesta Beach, it’s a similar scene with birds picking away at what’s left behind. Florida Fish and Wildlife’s latest report identifies those two beaches as having the highest levels of red tide, which is an algae bloom that produces toxic chemicals. For humans, it causes respiratory irritation, but for marine organisms and some birds, it’s often deadly. READ MORE

DEVELOPING: Two Giant storms set to Collide and smash into Britain

uk-weather-warning-storm-714062
Two colossal Atlantic storms are on course to smash into each other – forming the PERFECT STORM – before ripping into Britain next week sparking severe gales and torrential rain. Weathermen forecast 70mph winds in parts of the north by Tuesday with damaging gusts likely elsewhere. The systems – Karl and Lisa – are currently charging across the Atlantic and are expected to reach storm-force in the next day or so.
Unusually they will merge over the weekend – just like in hit film ‘The Perfect Storm’ – before tracking northeastwards on a DIRECT path towards Britain. America’s National Hurricane Centre warned Karl is likely to reach hurricane strength over the next two days before joining forces with Lisa. READ MORE
