Extra dimensions? Dark matter? Satanic rituals? What is this machine The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) really doing? The Most powerful Collider in the world hunts for clues It’s already helped scientists find what some call the “God Particle.” What else will the Large Hadron Collider reveal as it resumes experiments this 2016?

The Large Hadron Collider is one of the wonders of the modern world. It’s believed to be the largest and most complex machine mankind has ever created. Buried hundreds of feet beneath Switzerland and France, the Collider smashes subatomic particles together with enormous energy.
By studying the collisions, scientists have already made a major discovery: the “Higgs boson,” some call it the “God Particle.” They’re now hoping to learn more about “Dark Matter” and “Dark Energy” and how they effect the universe we live in. After a short winter break the Collider has begun smashing particles at even higher power now.
When Director-General of the European Organization for Nuclear Research Fabiola Gianotti at Cern was asked about Dark Matter and Dark Energy, this is what she had to say about the subject.
“Absolutely. Our theories in particle physics predicts the existence of additional dimensions. String theories, for instance, they require seven additional dimensions. Opening another dimension is the trick. One of our biggest goals is shining a light on dark matter and dark energy which are among the great remaining mysteries of modern science and reminders of how little we know about the universe. When we look at the universe, what we see by eye or with our telescopes is only five percent of the universe. We believe this part to be Dark matter. WE DONT KNOW, what’s the composition of this part of the universe is made of. We do now have some indirect, but very strong experimental evidence of dark energy now though. It is a very exiting time for science.”
Cutting-edge science is an exploration of the unknown; an intellectual step into the frontier of human knowledge.
Such studies provide great excitement for those passionate about understanding the world around us, but some are apprehensive of the unknown and wonder if new and powerful science, and the facilities where it is explored, could be dangerous.
Some even go so far as to ask whether one of humanity’s most ambitious research projects could even pose an existential threat to Life and the Earth it self.
How do you feel about what Cern is doing? Do you agree with Science pressing the envelope with the possible uncertainty of harming earth or humanity as we know it?

CERN: ‘Bump’ In Data Could Signal 5th Force In Nature or New Particle

Late last year, when most people were getting ready for the holidays, physicists at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) machine at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, made a startling announcement: Their two massive detectors had identified a small bump in the data with an energy level of about 750 GeV.
This level is about six times larger than the energy associated with the Higgs particle. (To go from energy to mass divide the energy by the square of the speed of light.) For comparison, the mass of a proton, the particle that makes the nuclei of all atoms in nature, is about 1 GeV. The Higgs is heavy — and this new bump, if associated with a new particle, would be really heavy.
The high energy physics community answered with verve. In a few months, hundreds of papers have been published with hypothetical explanations for the bump.
Last month, physicists at CERN released a bit more information, slightly strengthening their claim for the reality of this new data point. Right now, the bump has a 1 in 20 chance of being just a spurious statistical fluctuation, something that happens from time to time, even if rare.
