Fr. Campbell- Walking in “newness of life” (Rom.6:4b)

Walking in “newness of life” (Rom.6:4b)

As Christians, having “put on the Lord Jesus Christ,” we have a new identity. This is explained by St. Paul in the Epistle today when he says: “For we are buried together with Him by baptism unto death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life” (Rom.6:4). We are a New Humanity; the old is passing away. So we must let go of our old identity, being called by the Lord, Who “chose us in him (Christ) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish in his sight in love” (Eph.1:4).

Much is made today of our so-called solidarity with all men, as if it was something already achieved, needing only to be recognized. Perhaps the greatest heresy afflicting the Church today is the belief that all men are born in grace, and are capable of building a just and peaceful world without first accepting the message of the Gospel. But being descended from Adam and Eve by natural generation, being a member of the human species, is not enough, because true solidarity, spiritual solidarity, was lost through Original Sin, and can be regained only through Baptism. No human organization, the UN for example, has the power to create a community of nations in which peace will reign, unless you call slavery peace. No nation or consortium of nations can make the world “safe for democracy” or for anything else, if Christ the King is not recognized. They never cease trying, but they are unable to prevent the whole world from descending always deeper into chaos.

The New Humanity, which has nothing to do with the New Man of the emerging New World Order, is that which has Christ for its Head. St. Paul speaks of Christ as the New Adam, Head of the New Humanity which is being born of Mother Church through Baptism. Dying to our old selves in Baptism, we escape condemnation and enter into the new and eternal Covenant sealed in the Blood of Christ. Those who are not reborn of water and the Holy Spirit, those who are not regenerated, are not our true brothers. We do not have true solidarity with them.

It is not at all that we abandon them to their fate, or that we care nothing for their salvation. The opposite is true. This is why the true Church preaches to them with St. Peter: “Save yourselves from this perverse generation” (Acts 2:40). We are commanded to preach the Gospel, even if none should listen. We leave that in the hands of the Lord, while we pray for the salvation of their souls. “Many sinners are lost,” said Our Lady at Fatima, “because there is no one to pray for them.”

Now since we are a New Creation we do not have to live as the pagans do. Pity those who have not yet discovered the way to eternal life. But don’t envy them when they have their “Pride” parades, brazenly breaking every Commandment and every rule of decency, and making mockery of everything that is holy and worthy of our admiration.  Not knowing Christ, the Light of the world, they are wandering in the dark on their way to eternal perdition. This is the true ignorance. In spite of the explosion of knowledge, which increases every day at an unimaginable rate through computerized technology and the internet, they do not have true knowledge, nor do they know how to free themselves from slavery to sin and death. We must not follow them or admire them!

There is something satanic about this explosion of knowledge. By means of the new technology the masses of the people are now under the influence of new masters who are preparing them for the New World Order. National identity is to be abolished and replaced with a global identity. Christianity is to be abolished and replaced with a one-world-religion based on the worship of man. The traditional family is being replaced with the single parent family, or the same-sex couple family, and who knows what else down the line. These agents of the Evil One seek to initiate the whole human race into the devil’s covenant, the Luciferian Initiation, spiritual slavery and death for all who allow themselves to be deceived. “No one will enter the New Age unless he will take a Luciferian Initiation” (David Spangler). St. John tells us:

“We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one” (1Jn.5:19).

There is only one escape from this spiritual darkness – to enter the Covenant of the Lord through Baptism, and to be a faithful member of the Holy Catholic Church, the Ark of Salvation. Within the Church, our Mother, we have the spiritual nourishment we need to be perfect Christians and soldiers of Jesus Christ. We heard in today’s Gospel about Jesus performing the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and the fishes. He reveals to us the superabundance of the new life, and at the same time prepares us for the Sacrament of the Eucharist, by which we are transformed into Christ. As we eat natural food, our meat and potatoes (and broccoli) it becomes our flesh and blood. But the opposite occurs as we eat the Bread of Life – we are changed and transformed, so that we can say with St. Paul, “It is now no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal.2:20). In this desert He gives us Bread!

Within the Covenant of the Lord we are no longer ignorant of spiritual things, and must no longer be a slave to the flesh. St. Peter admonishes us: “Therefore, having girded up the loins of your understanding, be sober and set your hope completely upon that grace which is brought to you in the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not conform to the lusts of former days when you were ignorant; but as the One who called you is holy, be you also holy in all your behavior; for it is written, ‘You shall be holy, because I am holy’” (1Pet.1:13-16).

Jesus has these sobering words for us: “No one, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Lk.9:62). Those who wish to succeed at any profession must set high standards for themselves, and keep working every day to achieve excellence. This is especially true of the Christian life. We must reach for the top, trying to be saints. Our Lady urges us: “Pray! Pray! Pray!” Our goal is not just to escape Hell, but to love God with all our heart and soul and mind and strength. St. Paul encourages us:

“For this reason I bend my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and on earth receives its name, that he may grant you from his glorious riches to be strengthened with power through his Spirit unto the progress of the inner man; and to have Christ dwelling through faith in your hearts: so that, being rooted and grounded in love, you may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, in order that you may be filled unto all the fullness of God” (Eph.3:14-19).
