Archbishop Gregory Promotes "Gay Pride" March in Atlanta 

 

Archbishop Wilton Daniel Gregory, former President of the UCCB and current Archbishop of Atlanta, has authorized the use of The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and support for participating in the secular Gay Pride Parade. The event took place on October 14th and the Shrine is listed as a sponsor endorsing the event.  

The laity in Atlanta has done nothing, and a cursory search of the internet shows no concern about this event, either.

It's on the site of the first church built in Atlanta and was first referred to as a shrine in 1954.

 Here's some history of the parish of the Shrine, which is on the site of one of the first Catholic churches in the state of Georgia from the parish website, which boasts a "GLBT" ministry:

On June 2, 1954 at the re-dedication of Immaculate Conception Church, the Most Monsignor James J. Grady Reverend Francis E. Hyland, Auxiliary Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta Diocese, referred to the church, for the first time, as a Shrine to the Blessed Mother. After many decades of special devotion to Mary, Immaculate Conception Church had been designated a shrine (a church hallowed by history)—by decree of Archbishop Gerald P. O’Hara. Archbishop O’Hara affirmed that the beloved historic church would now be known as the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the Shrine of the entire Atlanta diocese.
