St. Teresa's comparison of demons to flies and follows this analogy with
a series of spiritual flyswatters, or ways to get rid of the devil and
his influence. The whole world is in the power of the evil one, but
there is hope. We should be cautious but not scared. There are many
prayers that can fend off the devil, including the Sign of the Cross,
binding prayers, the Precious Blood prayer, St. Anthony's Brief, the
recitation of the holy rosary and others. Sacramentals that are most
powerful against the devil include: the scapular, the miraculous medal,
blessed palms of St Peter Martyr, blessed salt, blessed oil, holy water,
blessed rosaries and others.
