ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A new billboard on I-25 is causing some controversy.

The billboard on northbound I-25 near Montgomery tells people to "just skip church" and '"it's all fake news!" The phrases are written next to a nativity scene. Underneath, it says "Happy Holidays from American Atheists."
The billboard went up Wednesday, and it's not the only one. There are two in Dallas and five more going up in Oklahoma.

A group of 11 Catholics were arrested by Belgian police for praying the rosary during a service commemorating the Protestant Reformation at the Catholic Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels on Saturday, according to local media.

The Protestant worship service was led by Pastor Steven Fuite, president of the United Protestant Church of Belgium, with the “active participation” of Cardinal Jozef De Kesel, archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels, and by numerous other religious and civic leaders. Fuite preached a sermon at the event, and a collection was made to raise money for two Protestant organizations.

On Monday, Northwest Nazarene University President Joel Pearsall announced the institution would be adopting “Nighthawks” as its new nickname. Pearsall’s announcement concluded a lengthy process in which university stakeholders moved to drop the crusaders moniker, according to an article published on the school’s website. A statue of St. Junipero Serra at the Old Santa Barbara Mission in California has been decapitated and splashed with red paint. The bronze statue was vandalized overnight between Sunday and Monday.

An 18th century Spanish Franciscan, Serra is remembered in Catholic circles as the missionary who brought the faith to the West Coast of the Americas, having founded nine missions himself from San Francisco to San Diego, and he inspired the creation of twelve others after his death in 1784. He’s formally known as the “Apostle of California.”

Australian Christians have been warned not to wear overtly Christian symbols through Muslim areas in Sydney or risk being attacked.
Last week, a 30-year-old Greek Orthodox Christian had a crucifix ripped from his neck and stomped on by four men described as "Middle Eastern in appearance."
He says they punched him and kicked him in his face, back and shoulders, injuries corroborated by a doctor's examination.  When his girlfriend tried to defend him, two Arabic-speaking women also allegedly hit and kicked her.
