In the short span of three weeks, Cardinal Joseph Tobin has made startling statements regarding the role of women within the Catholic Church in a pair of interviews reported in high profile left-leaning publications – The New York Times (NYT) and Jesuit America Magazine. 
Nicholas Kristoff kicked off the NYT interview by zeroing in on a favorite term, “gender,” in what amounted to a slight against Catholicism.  “One area where the Catholic Church seems to me antiquated is gender.” Kristoff continued, “If Jesus trusted women like Mary Magdalene, if Phoebe could be a leader of the early church, then why can’t women be priests or cardinals today?”

 Father Roy Donovan, parish priest of Caheronlish, Limerick, has objected to the decision by his Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly of Cashel & Emly to introduce the permanent diaconate in his archdiocese. Donovan called on the archbishop to wait until the completion of a report by the papal commission on women deacons.

He further believes that “a woman could celebrate the Eucharist even better than a man being more familiar with the shedding of blood. A woman saying ‘this is my body, this is my blood’ can give more meaning to the Eucharist than any male celibate.”

The leadership of the radical Association of Catholic Priests fully supported Donovan, “We believe that proceeding with the introduction of male deacons at this time, and thereby adding another male clerical layer to ministry, is insensitive, disrespectful of women.”

A sister of Témiscamingue will celebrate a marriage, for the first time in Abitibi-Témiscamingue for the Catholic Church. Sister Pierrette Thiffault, of Moffet, will act as celebrant in a marriage this weekend.

Pierrette Thiffault entered with the Catholic sisters of Providence 55 years ago, but never thought that one day would celebrate a marriage.

" I can not marry. I am not orderly and this is not my function, "Sor Thiffault says.

However, she received a letter on May 23 confirming that she can preside over a marriage.

The female advisory board of the Pontifical Council for Culture has big plans: By sending an “electric shock” within the Church, it hopes to spark thousands of similar councils around the globe in search of solutions that go beyond women priests.

The UN is now set to vote in December on the passage of a LGBT amendment which empowers a special envoy to investigate discrimination and violence against this nebulous group.

• Vote paves route for the UN to establish an independent expert to oversea LGBT issues.
• A 54 nations African Group had challenged the legality of the UN bureaucratic post, and called for its suspension.
• UN General Assembly’s human rights committee voted 84-77 with 12 abstentions Monday to remove the bar by the African Group.
• Amended resolution was then approved in a 94-3 vote with 80 abstentions.
• Vitit Muntarbhorn of Thailand was appointed on September 30 and has already begun his work investigating alleged LGBT  violence and discrimination.
• Amendment will now go before the 193-member General Assembly for a final vote in December.
