China’s restive far-western Xinjiang region has revised its legislation to allow local governments to “educate and transform” people influenced by extremism at “vocational training centres” – a term used by the government to describe a network of internment facilities known as “concentration re-education camps”, the SCMP reported.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES: GQ Magazine Puts the Bible on List of Most Overrated Books Ever

The Bible is one of the most overrated books of all time, according to a recent article by GQ Magazine.  The article, written by “the editors of GQ,” ranks the sacred text No. 12 on the list of 21 books “you don’t have to read.”  “Those who have read it know there are some good parts, but overall it is certainly not the finest thing that man has ever produced. It is repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish, and even at times ill-intentioned,” the article states.  Fox News religion contributor Father Jonathan Morris called the list and ranking “foolish” and that “it’s a shame.” “I think what [GQ] is trying to do is say, ‘Hey listen, we need to go [in] a very different direction,'” Morris said. A priest on the outskirts of Guadalajara has been murdered, the second priest in a week killed in Mexico.
Father Juan Miguel Contreras Garcia, 33, was shot dead late Friday in Tlajomulco de Zuniga by unidentified attackers in his parish office, reportedly while hearing a confession.

China Tears Down Crosses Again

Authorities in China’s Henan province have reportedly torn down crosses atop several churches after claims that the structures themselves were built illegally.  “The parishes were illegally built without permission from the government,” an official told China’s state-run Global Times newspaper. “So we demolished their crosses.” A representative with the Ethnic and Religious Bureau of Yichuan county, a small town south of Henan’s capital, said “two or three” crosses were pulled down this year.
“Activities in the illegally-built parishes will be prohibited,” the official told the newspaper. “Other legal Christian activities here will remain open.”  This latest incident comes as Chinese Christians fear a new crackdown. From 2014 to 2016, more than 1,500 crosses were torn down from churches in one Chinese province. Last week, China’s government banned online retailers from selling the Bible. READ MORE

A Catholic nun has been detained in India last week after Hindu nationalists accused her of converting four girls to Christianity.
Sister Bina Joseph and the four girls were reportedly traveling on a train when they were detained by the railway police at the Satna station on June 13. According to UCA News, the girls and the nun were traveling from Jharkhand to study at a church-run school in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh state.
