On March 30, 2018, Card. Christoph von Schönborn gave an interview to a group of Austrian journalists that was published on April 1 in Austria by Die Presse and Salzburger Nachrichter. It was translated to English and commented upon in several media outlets during the first week of April. Here I am re-examining the cardinal’s statements and adding some observations that I did not find in those articles.

The [settled] question of ordaining women to “deacons, priests and bishops” can only be decided by a council, believes Vienna Cardinal Christoph Schönborn.
Talking to several Austrian newspapers (March 31), Schönborn said that a pope cannot decide an ordination of women "alone" although a council has no power either to introduce such a thing because it contradicts the Faith.
According to Catholic teaching women cannot receive the sacrament of holy orders - as animals cannot be baptised and chocolate cannot be consecrated.
About priestly celibacy Schönborn said that there is “potential for change”.
According to Schönborn, Francis wants the issue to be discussed at the Amazonian synod in 2019.

Francis is a God-sent gift from God “for me and I think for many”, pro-gay Vienna Cardinal Schönborn said to the anti-Catholic state television ORF (March 18).

Schönborn acknowledged that Franics is more valued “outside” of the Church while “certain circles in the Church” [i.e. the Catholics] are worried that Francis is - what Schönborn called - “too open”.

Most of the interview is fluffy verbiage. Schönborn has a history of enthusiastically praising whatever pope is in power.

Vienna Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, 72, celebrates on December 1 a World AIDS Day liturgy. For the occasion the Mozart Requiem will be performed.

This "liturgy" is a political event bowing to the gay lobby. It is co-organized by “Life+”, the most influential gay propaganda organisation in Vienna. The group is headed by the homosexual Gery Keszler (54). It also organises the annual Vienna “Life Ball”, one of the biggest gay events in Europe which critics call “Death Ball”. Only in 2014 Schönborn described the “Life Ball” as “desolate” and a “pagan festival”.

Since then Keszler and Schönborn have become personal friends who meet for private dinners.

There were anti-Semites in the Catholic Church “including the canonized Pope Pius V (1504-1572)”, Vienna Cardinal Christoph Schönborn said on Friday during a discussion with Protestant bishop Michael Bünker in church Sankt Leopold in Vienna, "kathpress.at" reports.

According to "kathpress.at" Schönborn said: "On the Catholic side, too, there were great antisemites and persecutors of the Jews, including the canonized Pope Pius V."

Talking about the alleged dark side of the Church makes more cautious when judging Islam, Schönborn added. According to him Catholics “live in a glass house” and “shouldn’t throw stones”.

Cardinal Christoph Schönborn of Vienna wants "more women in ecclesiastical offices". He told “Wiener Zeitung”, that women in the Latin Church were consecrated to deaconesses until the Middle Ages and that deaconesses exist in the Eastern Churches until today. Schönborn thinks it is a theological question what kind of consecration women had.

In December, the website of the Archdiocese of Vienna led by Schönborn published a new presentation of the Ten Commandments. It included a commentary on the Sixth Commandment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” that could be interpreted to justify everything from masturbation to pornography and prostitution.

Pope Francis will reportedly soon appoint a special administrator of the Holy See for Međugorje. The unofficial information has not yet been confirmed, but it is assumed that the Vatican could take over in the next few months. It is assumed that this would mean that Međugorje would get a status of a shrine which would be managed by the pope’s administrator, while the parish of Međugorje and pastoral activities would remain in the hands of the Franciscans of the Herzegovinian Franciscan Province, reports Večernji List on July 3, 2016.
