Australia passes law requiring priests to break seal of confession, bishop protests 

A new law in Australia requires Catholic priests in Canberra to break the sacred seal of confession to report a child-sex abuser. The law, which has drawn fierce opposition from Archbishop Christopher Prowse of Canberra, could result in faithful priests being jailed who refuse to comply.

The book is entitled :"Silent Invasion ".

He's been threatened etc., as expected

No Australian publisher would touch it , but an English company published it, instead.

Australia's most senior Catholic leaders will ask the "Pope" to settle the issue of whether the seal of confession can be broken to protect children from sexual abuse as one likened it to bugging the confessional.
Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher said for a priest to repeat anything that has occurred during confession would be a very serious breach of trust and the sacrament.
Archbishop Fisher said he could not withhold absolution from someone who confessed to abusing a child and if they were genuinely contrite would forgive their sin, as he would a terrorist or a murderer.

SYDNEY — Like many of their brethren around the world, Catholics in Australia have been rocked in recent years by evidence of systemic child abuse in the church.
One big question remains, though, for the country's 5 million Catholics: Was one of their top clerics complicit?
Last month, George Pell, now a cardinal and senior Vatican official, was questioned in Rome by Australian police after public allegations in July by two former students that he had inappropriately touched them in a swimming pool back in the 1970s.
