Reflection: God's Missing Sheep

Reflection: God's Missing Sheep
By: Fr. Voigt (Resistance)

Who is missing and who is found?  In the order of God's creative plan there are those who are at peace and no longer have to struggle to pass the divine test.  Next we find one who has to come to the light or to be found.  Someone is in the dark and this same someone is lost and needs help to come to his proper place.  Meditating on this perplexing problem, St. Luke presents his answer in a trilogy of parables: 1) the shepherd seeking the lost sheep; 2) the woman who seeks the missing coin; and 3) the prodigal boy whose Father awaits his return.

In the kingdom of God there are nine choirs of angels who used their reason to conclude that it is better to trust in God and His Word than to "grasp at equality with God" and lose His love.
These nine choirs of angels are: angels, archangels, dominations, powers, principalities, dominions, thrones, cherubim and seraphim.  These created Spirits populate the kingdom of God and seek to share with Jesus in the work of man's salvation.  These are pure spirits that possess the
power to think, evaluate and choose.  Their choice of following God's will was once and forever fixed in the affirmative.  In this passage of St. Luke the angels are the 99 or the 9 that do not need to be found and are pleased in the will of God.

Not one of these celestial beings become jealous because the fallen man receives the attention of the Son of God.  Consider a household of 12 children and one falls sick.  Whom does the physician attend to but the sick child.  Do the other children become jealous of the sick child because the doctor does not pay attention to them?  Not on your life!  So with the heavenly courts there is more rejoicing over the one that repents and is healed than over the 99 that do
not need to repent.

Now you have guessed the identity of the lost lamb that requires the attention of the good Shepherd.  Our Lord seeks us out  just as God sought out Adam when he had fallen into sin.
We are the lost coins for we bear the image and likeness of God within our souls. We are the ones that will complete the numbers that populate heaven.  God must have His hundred.
Jesus is the Shepherd that seeks us out; the Church is the woman who brings to souls the Light of the World and the Father waits for us in the kingdom of the angels and saints.
What are we waiting for; we have the light and Jesus has purchased us for God our Father; and now eternity hangs in the balance of our decision.

How merciful God is to allow us the opportunity to grow daily in the light and knowledge of His Son and our Savior.  Growth is the demand of our life in this world and the development of our relationship with our Lord determines the height of our happiness in heaven.  Yes, there is great joy in heaven over each one of us who repents and picks up his/her cross and follows the Lord daily.  Grasp the Light and learn to love one another.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt
