 The Roman Martyrology
 April 29

St. Peter, a martyr of the Order of Preachers, who was slain for the Catholic faith on the 6th day of April.

At Rome, the birthday of St. Catherine of Siena, virgin of the Third Order of St. Dominic, renowned for her holy life and her miracles.  She was inscribed among the canonized virgins by Pope Pius II.  Her feast, however, is celebrated on the following day.

At Paphos in Cyprus, St. Tychicus, a disciple of the blessed Apostle Paul, who called him in his Epistles, "most dear brother," "faithful minister," and "fellow-servant in the Lord".

At Pisa in Tuscany, the martyr St. Torpes, who filled a high office in the court of Nero, and was one of those of whom the apostle wrote from Rome to the Philippians: "All the saints salute you, especially those that are of the house of Caesar."  For the faith of Christ, he was, by order of Satellicus, beaten, cruelly scourged, and delivered to the beasts to be devoured, but remained uninjured.  He completed his martyrdom by being beheaded.

At Cirta in Numidia, the birthday of the holy martyrs Apapius and Secundinus, bishops, who, after a long exile in that city, added to the glory of their priesthood the crown of martyrdom.  They suffered in the persecution of Valerian, during which the enraged Gentiles made every effort to shake the faith of the just.  In their company suffered Aemilian, a soldier, Tertulla and Antonia, consecrated virgins, and a woman with her twin children.

In the island of Codyra, the seven holy thieves who were converted to Christ by St. Jason, and gained eternal life by martyrdom.

At Naples in Campania, Bishop St. Severus, who, among other prodigies, raised for a short time a dead man from the grave in order to convict of falsehood the lying creditor of a widow and her children.

At Brescia, St. Paulinus, bishop and confessor.
In the monastery of Cluny in France, St. Hugh Abbot.

In the monastery of Molesmes in France, St. Robert, the first abbot of the Cistercians.

Et álibi aliórum plurimórum sanctórum Mártyrum et Confessórum, atque sanctárum Vírginum.
R.  Deo grátias.

And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.
R.  Thanks be to God.

Baptism of Desire/Baptism of Blood-Against Feeneyism

Baptism of Desire/Baptism of Blood IS "binding" on ALL Catholics!

In this hour of the crisis for Holy Mother Church it is necessary cover those doctrines which a Catholic must believe in order "to be" or "remain a Catholic". Amidst such horrific teachings and misapplication of the Catholic Faith coming from the Feeneyites, many, who are sedevacanists, we must consider what the Church has taught infallibly which is not to be considered as mere theological opinion.  BOB/BOD is found in Tradition and taught explicitly at the dogmatic Council of Trent. It has been taught both thru the extraordinary and ordinary Magesterium. It can be found in the Catechism of Trent and St. Pius X. Those who reject BOD/BOB are objectively speaking "outside the Body of Christ"; they are heretics and protestants.

I have gathered here some of the texts in which Catholics have expressed their belief in baptism of desire and baptism of blood through the centuries. It is clear that Catholics have always believed in this infallible teaching of the Church:

(All quotes below are from the Douay Rheims Version)

Baptism of Blood (Scripture):
I have a baptism [His Crucifixion] wherewith I am to be baptized: and how am I straitened until it be accomplished?” (St. Luke 12)

“And Jesus said to them: You know not what you ask. Can you drink of the chalice that I drink of: or be baptized with the baptism wherewith I am baptized?

But they said to him: We can. And Jesus saith to them: You shall indeed drink of the chalice that I drink of: and with the baptism wherewith I am baptized, you shall be baptized.” (St. Mark 10)

(The Church Fathers)
Tertullian (died A.D. 220)

"We have indeed, likewise, a second font, (itself withal one with the former,) of blood, to wit; concerning which the Lord said, “I have to be baptized with a baptism,” when he had been baptized already. For he had come “by means of water and blood,” just as John had written; that He might be baptized by the water, glorified by the blood; to make us, in like manner, called by water, chosen by blood. These two baptisms He sent out from the wound in His pierced side [Jn. 19:34], in order that they who believed in His blood might be bathed with the water; they who had been bathed in the water might likewise drink the blood. This is the baptism that both stands in lieu of the fontal bathing when that has not been received, and restores it when lost.” (On Baptism, 16)

    St. Hippolytus. (A.D. 253)

“If a catechumen is arrested on account of the name of the Lord [i.e., because he is a Christian,] let him not be of double heart about his testimony; should violence come to him and he is killed, although his sins are not yet forgiven [i.e., he is not yet baptized,] he will be justified. For he has received baptism in his own blood.” (The Apostolic Tradition, 19)

 St. Cyprian (A.D. 258)

Let men of this kind, who are aiders and favourers of heretics, know therefore, first, that those catechumens hold the sound faith and truth of the Church, and advance from the divine camp to do battle with the devil, with a full and sincere acknowledgement of God the Father, and of Christ, and of the Holy Ghost; then, that they certainly are not deprived of the sacrament of baptism who are baptized with the most glorious and greatest baptism of blood, concerning which the Lord also said, that He had “another baptism to be baptized with.

Baptism of Desire:

 Dogmatic Council of Trent:
Sacraments received through desire
Trent: “And this translation [to the state of justification], since the promulgation of the Gospel, cannot be EFFECTED, WITHOUT THE LAVER OF REGENERATION, AT LEAST IN THE DESIRE THEREOF [aut eius voto], as it is written; “unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.”” (Denz. 796)
Although the sacrament of penance is “necessary for salvation”, it may be received unto salvation “in desire” as well as “actually”.

Trent: “Whence it is to be taught, that the penitence of a Christian, after his fall, is very different from that at (his) baptism; and that therein are included not only a cessation from sins, and a detestation thereof, or, a contrite and humble heart, but also THE SACRAMENTAL CONFESSION OF THE SAID SINS, AT LEAST IN DESIRE [saltem in voto], and to be made in its season, and sacerdotal absolution and likewise satisfaction by fasts, alms, prayers, and the other pious exercises of a spiritual life; not indeed for the eternal punishment,-which is, together with the guilt, REMITTED, EITHER BY THE SACRAMENT, OR BY THE DESIRE OF THE SACRAMENT,-but for the temporal punishment, which, as the sacred writings teach, is not always wholly remitted, as is done in baptism.” (Denz 807)

Trent: “The Synod teaches moreover, that, although it sometimes happen that this CONTRITION IS PERFECT through charity, and reconciles man with God BEFORE THIS SACRAMENT BE ACTUALLY RECEIVED, the said reconciliation, nevertheless, is not to be ascribed to that contrition, independently of THE DESIRE OF THE SACRAMENT which is included therein.” (Denz. 898)
 St. Ambrose (Doctor, A.D. 397)

But he even had this desire for a long time, that, when he should come into Italy, he would be initiated, and recently he signified a desire to be baptized by me, and for this reason above all others he thought that I ought to be summoned. Has he not, then, the grace which he desired; has he not the grace which he requested? And because he asked, he received, and therefore is it said: “By whatsoever death the just man shall be overtaken, his soul shall be at rest” (Wisd. 4:7)

 St. Thomas Aquinas:

And such a man CAN obtain salvation without being ACTUALLY BAPTIZED, on account of his desire for Baptism, which desire is the outcome of “faith that worketh by charity,” whereby God, Whose power is not tied to visible sacraments, sanctifies man inwardly. (Summa Theologica III, 68:2)

Objection: the sacrament of Baptism is necessary for salvation. Now that is necessary “without which something cannot be” (Aristotle’s Metaphysics V). Therefore it seems that none can obtain salvation without Baptism.
Reply: THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM IS SAID TO BE NECESSARY FOR SALVATION IN SO FAR AS THERE CAN BE NO SALVATION FOR MAN UNLESS HE AT LEAST HAVE IT IN DESIRE WHICH, WITH GOD, COUNTS FOR THE DEED.” (Summa Theologica 3, 68, 2)

In another way one may eat Christ spiritually, as He is under the sacramental species, inasmuch as a man believes in Christ, WHILE DESIRING TO RECEIVE THIS SACRAMENT; and this is NOT MERELY TO EAT CHRIST SPIRITUALLY, BUT LIKEWISE TO EAT THIS SACRAMENT. (Summa Theologica 3, 80, 2)

Church Texts Condemning Feeneyism

Richard J. Cushing, Archbishop of Boston Decree Regarding Leonard Feeney, April 18, 1949

Rev. Leonard Feeney, S.J., because of grave offense against the laws of the Catholic Church has lost the right to perform any priestly function, including preaching and teaching of religion.

Any Catholics who frequent St. Benedict’s Center, or who in any way take part in or assist its activities forfeit the right to receive the Sacrament of Penance and Holy Eucharist.

Given at Boston on the 18th day of April, 1949.

Pius XII Decree Excommunicating Leonard Feeney, 13 February 1953

Prior to the excommunication, Feeney received the following summons to appear before the Holy Office from Cardinal Pizzardo on November 22, 1952.

The Holy Office has been obliged repeatedly to make your teaching and conduct in the Church the object of its special care and attention, and recently, after having again carefully examined and calmly weighed all the evidence collected in your cause, it has found it necessary to bring this question to a conclusion.

DECREE

THE PRIEST LEONARD FEENEY IS DECLARED EXCOMMUNICATED

Since the priest Leonard Feeney, a resident of Boston (Saint Benedict Center), who for a long time has been suspended a divinis for grave disobedience toward church authority, has not, despite repeated warnings and threats of incurring excommunication ipso facto, come to his senses, the Most Eminent and Reverend Fathers, charged with safeguarding matters of faith and morals, have, in a Plenary Session held on Wednesday 4 February 1953, declared him excommunicated with all the effects of the law.

On Thursday, 12 February 1953, our Most Holy Lord Pius XII, by Divine Providence Pope, approved and confirmed the decree of the Most Eminent Fathers, and ordered that it be made a matter of public law.

Given at Rome, at the headquarters of the Holy Office, 13 February 1953.

'Deeply Flawed" Popes or Modernist Popes? The Remnant Strikes Again!

'Deeply Flawed" Popes or Modernist Popes? The Pseudo Trad Remnant Strikes Again!

Brethren,
Once again, we must, as charity dictates, call out the Remnant Newspaper for their theological ineptitude and misleading of "would be" Traditional Catholics. As I have pointed out before in previous talks and articles the members of this newspaper are liberals/modernists in disguise who downgrade Vatican II to just mere errors in the Council!  When these pseudo traditionalists such as Mr. Jackson "water down" reality they create for themselves a false bridge back over into the Conciliar Church which true Catholics cannot do. This is why and how they say they are against the errors in the Council but still attend local Masses where the Faith is not. They pretend the Vatican II NewChurch is the Catholic Church. Those holding to Vatican II cannot claim to be Catholic for it is the basis of the New Religion which is leading souls into the One World formalized Church of Apostasy soon(perhaps before 2017). Anyone still reading the Remnant runs the risk of losing their soul(in full knowledge) for the implication of being able to commune with the modernist heretics when you cannot. Vatican II is not the Catholic Faith these poor men are blind. Let us call to mind Archbishop Lefebvre, who clearly taught the true traditionalist position which is that Vatican II is a null and void( a New Religion) 'Council" and does not just  contain mere errors. The Remnant is trying to "play it safe" with this impotent hybrid pseudo trad position they hold to.

“We believe we can affirm, purely by internal and external criticism of Vatican II, i.e. by analyzing the texts and studying the Council’s ins and outs, that by turning its back on tradition and breaking with the Church of the past, it is a schismatic council.” (Archbishop Lefebvre, Le Figaro, August 4, 1976)

The more one analyzes the documents of Vatican II, and the more one analyzes their interpretation by the authorities of the Church, the more one realizes that what is at stake is not merely superficial errors, a few mistakes, ecumenism, religious liberty, collegiality, a certain Liberalism, but rather a wholesale perversion of the mind, a whole new philosophy based on modern philosophy, on subjectivism. A wholly different version of Revelation, of Faith, of philosophy! Very grave! A total perversion! How we are going to get out of all this, I have no idea , it is truly frightening.
Archbishop Lefebvre

The pseudo trads, who see no heresy, let alone a whole new religion of the Conciliar Church, are liberal/modernist wolves in sheep's clothing, dear brethren, of whom we must avoid. Mr Jackson at the end of this article even has a prayer to these two "NewChurch "Saints" He makes the fundamental error of not establishing that the modernists have completely revamped the notion of what Catholicism is due to the "man based" religion of the Vatican II, which is the basis for this Conciliar cult of man. Revolutionary "Saints", think it not! What this means, very simply is, when you have an erroneous perception of what is truly Catholic your judgements made most often cannot be Catholic! And how could they be? They are modernists, objectively speaking, not Catholics. The pseudo trads will deny this and state they are only deeply flawed. This is(true traditionalist position) simply too much for their impotent theology and position to allow for.

Michael Matt's delusional theology!

From the article:
"This means that Hippolytus had a 20-year reign as anti-pope before reconciling with the Church soon before his death. Yet he is still a Catholic Saint, primarily because of his theological writings before he became an anti-pope together with the fact he was martyred for his faith. Therefore one thing this episode can teach us is that if even a 20-year antipope can be a saint, we can understand if two legitimate, yet deeply flawed popes can become ones."

TCK Response: First off, Mr Jackson fails to acknowledge that the Conciliar Popes teach heresy. Right to religious liberty, liberty of conscience, americanism and "ecumenism" are not just mere errors but are Infallibly taught against by the Church. Failure to make such critical theological distinctions leads the whole Remnant Newspaper into error and thus on their fence-sitting position. Where there is modernism/liberalism they do not or will not want to see. Where they think they can be(attending Mass) you cannot truly be. The issue for true traditionalists is not whether they are antipopes or not for in reality even if they are we can/could not follow them anyways. The issue is that what the Vatican II Popes teach is clearly not Catholic and is heresy in MANY cases. I have mentioned just several above. Can a validly elected (modernist) Pope who has an erroneous perception and understanding of what true Catholicism is be made a Saint? Can his judgements, which, now due to Vatican II's new man centered religion, be legitimate? Can a Pope, who, objectively speaking is a modernist and not a Catholic make such canonizations, infallible? The answer to all is clearly, no! Therefore, once again the Remnant leaves the door open to the modernist breeze which "gently" comes thru their articles. Nay, the process(canonization) has changed; the judgements have changed and why? Because the Popes have changed the doctrines. These modernists(Popes included) have reconstructed a NewChurch. Vatican II is a NewChurch, objectively speaking, with Popes, who think what they are teaching is actually Catholic, even in the face off Infallibly condemned doctrines. They still carry on and teach erroneously for they think doctrines can progress/evolve). A false "living tradition" which is supposedly inside each man and changes with the times! It is more proof Vatican II teaches/implies a "democracy" and not a Monarchy(Social Reign of Christ).
It is the pride of the modernists which keep them from Truth as St. Pius X stated and likewise it is pride/theological ineptitude on the part of the Remnant which keeps them from wanting to see that we are not just dealing with a few errors and a supposed "virtual council' which is greater than a "council" manipulated by the 'liberal" media. What nonsense and delusion, for Vatican II in and of itself, is modernist and liberal, says the Church not me, based upon infallibly defined doctrines that we merely reiterate."It is impossible to approve in Catholic publications a style inspired by unsound novelty which seems to deride the piety of the faithful and dwells on the introduction of a new order of Christian life, on new directions of the Church, on new aspirations of the modern soul, on a new social vocation of the clergy, on a new Christian civilization, and many other things of the same kind." Language of the kind here indicated is not to be tolerated either in books or in lectures. POPE ST PIUS X- PASCENDI
There is no middle ground in the Church! There is no appeasing the masses and world and trying to fit in with Tradition. We are not here to sell newspapers or sell out conferences! We are here to save souls and thus we must keep continuing to pray for these pseudo trads who keep leading souls astray. May God Almighty protect and preserve your soul and family thru the Immaculate Heart of Mary I pray for all and love you all! Ave Maria!

From the article:
Prayer composed to the "NewChurch""Saints":
Saints John XXIII and John Paul II, being now deeply regretful of the aftermath of Vatican II, the errors of religious liberty, collegiality and ecumenism and the persecution of the Traditional Mass, please act as our ablest intercessors to Our Heavenly Father in calling for the swift restoration of Tradition to Holy Mother Church.

*John Paul was NEVER regretful over Vatican II. And he fails to state religious liberty, collegiality and ecumenism are heresies not just errors which is the ploy of the pseudo trads to "suck" souls back into the Conciliar Church. Stay away from the Remnant my dear friends. Vatican II, like the New Mass, will be made null and void in the future. These "canonizations" likewise will be revoked. A future Pope who is actually Catholic, objectively speaking, will make proper judgements on behalf of the "Church" because he will not have a modernist mindset.

Let us call to mind the Church's judgement on the modernists. Those who deny we have had modernist Popes since the Council are to be avoided. All pseudo traditionalist groups and apologists, Mr Voris, Father Z and the Remnant included.

Moreover, in order to check the daily increasing audacity of many modernists who are endeavoring by all kinds of sophistry and devices to detract from the force and efficacy not only of the decree "Lamentabili sane exitu" (the so-called Syllabus), issued by our order by the Holy Roman and Universal Inquisition on July 3 of the present year, but also of our encyclical letters "Pascendi dominici gregis" given on September 8 of this same year, we do by our apostolic authority repeat and confirm both that decree of the Supreme Sacred Congregation and those encyclical letters of ours, adding the penalty of excommunication against their contradictors, and this we declare and decree that should anybody, which may God forbid, be so rash as to defend any one of the propositions, opinions or teachings condemned in these documents he falls, ipso facto, under the censure contained under the chapter "Docentes" of the constitution "Apostolicae Sedis," which is the first among the excommunications latae sententiae, simply reserved to the Roman Pontiff. This excommunication is to be understood as salvis poenis, which may be incurred by those who have violated in any way the said documents, as propagators and defenders of heresies, when their propositions, opinions and teachings are heretical, as has happened more than once in the case of the adversaries of both these documents, especially when they advocate the errors of the modernists that is, the synthesis of all heresies.

NEW! Bishop Williamson (Apr 26th) RESISTANCE POLICY -- II

Number CCCLIV (354)

26th April 2014

RESISTANCE POLICY -- II
The Faith must be preserved despite the Shepherd being struck (cf. EC 348). If there was one man given to us by God to show us how to keep the Faith in stricken times, by preserving the true sacrifice of the Mass and the true Catholic priesthood, that man was certainly Archbishop Lefebvre (1905-1991). And since the disaster wrought upon the Church by the Conciliar Shepherds has not essentially changed since his time, then what he said and wrote applies essentially today, and any newcomer to the disaster cannot do better than read and study his words.
However, the disaster has also grown much worse since his death, and any so-called movement of “Resistance” today will do well to learn the lessons that are there to be learned from the threatening fall of that Society of St Pius X which it was the Archbishop’s stupendous achievement to found, within the collapsing mainstream Church, for the preservation of the Faith. Why is the leadership of the SSPX now taking it in a direction different from the Archbishop’s, a direction that must lead to the SSPX’s entirely similar collapse ?
Because, in my opinion, the leaders which the SSPX chose for itself after the Archbishop’s death in 1991 at the General Chapters of 1994 and 2006, never took the full measure of the Conciliar disaster, because they were children of the undermined 1950’s or the Revolutionary 1960’s and later still. Having drunk in the Revolution with their mothers’ milk, so to speak, they never understood how it wrecks from within churchmen still seeming Catholic without. In brief, these leaders have either never studied modernism, or never understood what they studied, or have been too “pious” or “supernatural” to think that it could apply to the mainstream churchmen in front of them.
Thus where Archbishop Lefebvre saw clearly that the Conciliar Church, by losing all four marks of the Catholic Church (one, holy, catholic, apostolic), was not the Catholic Church, Bishop Fellay (Superior General since 1994) and Fr Nicholas Pfluger (First Assistant since 2006) insist today that there can only be one Church, and so the Conciliar Church is the Catholic Church. Naturally then, where the Archbishop kept the SSPX at a safe distance from the Conciliar Church, Bishop Fellay and Fr Pfluger want to abolish that distance and bring the SSPX back within that Church which is Conciliar. And neither Bishop Fellay nor Fr Pfluger will feel Catholic until they have achieved that end.
But the Faith is firstly in the mind and not in the feelings. It follows that whoever has, for whatever reason, begun to recognize that the present leadership of the SSPX is on the wrong track, must continue by studying the total problem of the Revolution, of modernism and of Vatican II. That is a tall order, because one can have a text-book knowledge of the Revolution and still not recognize it right under one’s nose. I feel so nice when I feel that everybody else is nice that I lose from view the objective falsity of almost all of us as seen by God. One may say that it requires a special grace from God to see that falsity as he sees it, without losing one’s compassion, but a soul can obtain that grace if it seeks God seriously, especially in prayer.
God is good to those that seek him, says Scripture in many places. Assuming he exists, what could he be other than supremely good to those that seek him ?

Kyrie eleison.
~All of today’s world feels that it is nice, But in God’s eyes that’s self-deceiving vice.

The Path to Hell: Vanity, Indecency, Immodesty & Impurity

The Path to Hell: Vanity, Indecency, Immodesty & Impurity

In a world where everyday more souls bow down to "self" we are reminded of those select quotes from the Word of God and various Saints who warned of this path leading so many souls to hell. Our Lady of Fatima warned most souls go to hell due to "sins of the flesh" but is She being listened to? Inevitably, we will be chastised to severe degree. Let us quit trying to "stand out" in a world which is at war with God. Let us dress ourselves properly. Let us speak properly. Let us act decently as if Our Lady and Lord were in our presence at all times! How many forget this and carry on without thought that their immodest dress and speech offend a God Who is ALL Good. Ave Maria!

13 Scriptures against Vanity and Immodesty(both of the world and looks/body):

Proverbs 31:30
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: the woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Jeremiah 4:30
But when thou art spoiled what wilt thou do? though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, and paintest thy eyes with stibic stone, thou shalt dress thyself out in vain: thy lovers have despised thee, they will seek thy life.

1 Timothy 4:8
For bodily exercise is profitable to little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

2 Esdras (Nehemiah) 1:7
We have been seduced by vanity, and have not kept thy commandments, and ceremonies and judgments, which thou hast commanded thy servant Moses.

Psalms 4:3
O ye sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? why do you love vanity

Psalms 61:10
But vain are the sons of men, the sons of men are liars in the balances: that by vanity they may together deceive.

Psalms 118:37
Turn away my eyes that they may not behold vanity: quicken me in thy way.

Wisdom 4:12
For the bewitching of vanity obscureth good things, and the wandering of concupiscence overturneth the innocent mind.

Ecclesiasticus 3:26

And the suspicion of them hath deceived many, and hath detained their minds in vanity.

Ecclesiasticus 23:8
A sinner is caught in his own vanity, and the proud and the evil speakers shall fall thereby.

Isaias (Isaiah) 5:18
Woe to you that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as the rope of a cart.

Ephesians 4:17
This then I say and testify in the Lord: That henceforward you walk not as also the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind

2 Peter 2:18
For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness, those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error:
'You carry your snare everywhere and spread your nets in all places. You allege that you never invited others to sin. You did not, indeed, by your words, but you have done so by your dress and your deportment. . . When you have made another sin in his heart, how can you be innocent? Tell me, whom does this world condemn? Whom do judges punish? Those who drink poison or those who prepare it and administer the fatal potion?

You have prepared the abominable cup, you have given the death dealing drink, and you are more criminal than are those who poison the body; you murder not the body but the soul.

And it is not to enemies you do this, nor are you urged on by any imaginary necessity, nor provoked by injury, but out of foolish vanity and pride.'

St. John Chrysostom, Father and Doctor of the Church
'Louis of Granada speaks of a young woman whose damnation had no other source than vanity and the desire to please. She led a regular life, but her passion to attract attention by the charm of her beauty was the moving cause of her whole conduct. Having fallen sick, she died, having received all the Sacraments. While her confessor was praying for her soul, she appeared to him, saying that she was damned, and that the cause of her damnation was vanity. "I sought," she added, "only to please the eyes of men. This passion caused me to commit a multitude of sins; it prevented me from receiving the Sacraments well, and it has led me to everlasting torments."'
Rev. F.X. Schouppe, S.J.

'. . . Now, observe, my daughter, the contrast between the luxurious dress of many women, and the raiment and adornments of Jesus. . . Tell me: what relation do their fine shoes bear to the spikes in Jesus' Feet? The rings on their hands to the nails which perforated His? The fashionable coiffure to the Crown of Thorns? The painted face to That covered with bruises? Shoulders exposed by the low-cut gown to His, all striped with Blood? Ah, but there is a marked likeness between these worldly women and the Jews who, incited by the Devil, scourged Our Lord! At the hour of such a woman's death, I think Jesus will be heard saying: "Cujus est imago haec et circumscripto. . . of whom is she the image?" And the reply will be: "Demonii. . . of the Devil!" Then He will say: "Let her who has followed the Devil's fashions be handed over to him; and to God, those who have imitated the modesty of Jesus and Mary."'
St. Anthony Mary Claret

”If you desire to be chaste, be retired, be modest, be mortified.”
Saint Leonard of Port Maurice

'We must practise modesty, not only in our looks, but also in our whole deportment, and particularly in our dress, our walk, our conversation, and all similar actions.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

"Be neat, Philothea; let nothing be negligent about you. It is a kind of contempt of those with whom we converse, to frequent their company in uncomely apparel; but, at the same time, avoid all affectation, vanity, curiosity, or levity in your dress. Keep yourself always, as much as possible, on the side of plainness and modesty, which, without doubt, is the greatest ornament of beauty, and the best excuse for the want of it." ~ St. Francis de Sales, Introduction to a Devout Life, Part Three, Ch. 25
"Lust indulged became habit, and habit unresisted became necessity."
St. Augustine
"Either we must speak as we dress, or dress as we speak. Why do we profess one thing and display another? The tongue talks of chastity, but the whole body reveals impurity."
St. Jerome

"Another weapon the devil employs is immodesty, or more frankly, impurity. My dear children, be on your guard. The devil will tempt you with bad books, bad thoughts, or the foul conversation of a companion. When any such fellow approaches you, say to yourself, This is a minister of Satan. And let these wretches who indulge in foul conversation say to himself, I am a minister of Satan because I help him ruin souls!
St. John Bosco

'In your dress permit nothing unclean or slovenly, but at the same time avoid a studied elegance, which is not free from daintiness or affectation.'
St. Ignatius of Loyola

'It was sin that created the need for us to dress and to cover our body with clothing. This is why, because we carry with us at all times the condition of sinners, we must never appear not only without clothing but also without being fully dressed. This is required both by decency and by the law of God.'
St. Jean-Baptiste de la Salle

Pope Pius XII – May 23, 1948
"Mainly through sins of impurity, do the forces of darkness subjugate souls."

Pope Pius XII – July 17, 1954
"0 Christian mothers, if only you knew the future of distress and peril, of shame ill-restrained, that you prepare for your sons and daughters in imprudently accustoming them to live hardly clothed and in making them lose the sense of modesty, you should be ashamed of yourselves and of the harm done the little ones whom heaven entrusted to your care, to be reared in Christian dignity and culture."

Pope Pius XII – August 15, 1954 delegated Cardinal Ciriaci to issue a letter on modesty.
"Everyone knows that during the summer months particularly, things are seen here and there which are certain to prove offensive to anyone who has retained some respect and regard for Christian virtue and human modesty . On the beaches, in country resorts, almost everywhere, on the streets of cities and towns, in private and public places, and, indeed, often in buildings dedicated to God, an unworthy and indecent mode of dress has prevailed. Because of this, the young particularly, whose minds are easily bent towards vice, are exposed to the extreme danger of losing their innocence, which is, by far, the most beautiful adornment of mind and body. Feminine adornment, if it can be called adornment, feminine clothing, ‘if that can be called clothing which contains nothing to protect either the body or modesty.’ (Seneca) are at times of such a nature that they seem to serve lewdness rather than modesty . What we are discussing here is obviously most serious, since it vitally concerns not only Christian virtue but also the health and vigor of human society . Well did not the ancient poet say of this matter: ‘Vice necessarily follows upon public nudity’...

" A mortal sin of scandal is committed by women who go about with their bosom immodestly exposed, or who expose their limbs improperly. Also by actors in immodest comedies, and still more by the persons who compose such comedies; also by painters who paint obscene pictures, and by the heads of families who keep such pictures in their houses. The father who speaks obscenely, or blasphemes the saints, in presence of his children, and the mother who brings into her house to live among her daughters young men who are in love with them, or betrothed to them, or other suspected persons, are guilty of a still more grievous sin of scandal. Some mothers say: do not suspect any evil. I answer, that it is their duty to suspect; otherwise they will have to render to God an account of all the sins which may follow.
There was a woman who, even after marriage, did not cease giving scandal. This woman one day fell into a fit, and while she was in a state of unconsciousness, she saw the Lord condemning her to eternal fire. When she recovered the use of her senses, she did nothing but cry out, "Alas! I am damned, I am damned!" A confessor came to comfort her, but she answered, "What have I to do with confession? I am damned." Then her daughter approached the bed, in order to encourage her, but she cried out: "Ah, accursed child! on your account, too, I am damned: for through you I have given scandal to others." After these words the devils, in presence of all who were in the apartment, raised her up to the ceiling, and then dashed her so violently against the floor that she instantly expired.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Doctor of the Church

The educators of the young clergy would render a more valuable and useful service, if they would inculcate in youthful minds the precepts of Christian modesty, which is so important for the preservation of perfect chastity and which is truly called the prudence of chastity.
For modesty foresees threatening danger, it forbids us to expose ourselves to risks, it demands the avoidance of those occasions which the imprudent does not shun. Modesty does not like impure or loose talk, it shrinks from the slightest immodesty, it carefully avoids suspicious familiarity with persons of the other sex, since it brings the soul to show due reverence to the body, as being a temple of the Holy Spirit. He who possesses the treasure of Christian modesty abominates every sin of impurity and instantly flees whenever he is tempted by its seductions.

The Woman in the Modern World, Daughters of St. Paul, 1958, Appendix II)

A Pastoral letter of His Emminence Enrique Cardinal Pla y Daniel, Archbishop of Toledo Spain issued in 1959 this directive:
" A special danger to morals is represented by public bathing at beaches, in pools and riverbanks…Mixed bathing between men and women which nearly always is a proximate occasion of sin and a scandal must be avoided."

Vatican Document – Declaration on Certain Questions Concerning Sexual Ethics – 12/29/75
"In this way facts are discovered [i.e. by sociological surveys], but facts do not constitute a criterion for judging the moral value of human acts. The frequency of the phenomenon in question is certainly to be linked with man’s innate weakness following original sin; but is also to be linked with the loss of a sense of God, with the corruption of morals engendered by the commercialization of vice, with the unrestrained licentiousness of so many public entertainments and publications, as well as with the neglect of modesty, which is the guardian of chastity."

Padre Pio from the book "Prophet of the People" by Dorothy Gaudiose
"Padre Pio wouldn’t tolerate low-necked dresses or short, tight skirts, and he forbade his spiritual daughters to wear transparent stockings. (nylons) Each year his severity increased. He stubbornly dismissed them from his confessional, even before they set foot inside, if he judged them to be improperly dressed…His brothers observed these drastic purges with uneasiness and…fasten(ed) a sign on the church door: ‘By Padre Pio’s explicit wish, women must enter his confessional wearing skirts at least eight inches below the knees. It is forbidden to borrow longer dresses in church and to wear them for the confessional.
